I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

Mayor Frey: There are about 3,000 federal ICE agents in our city. You know how many police officers that we have? 600. Chaos has been dramatically increased now that these ICE operations are taking place. We want to keep this city safe. This is not accomplishing it by any standard.

Yes, immigration agents not only took Arnoldo's phone, the 10th grader had to use Find My Phone to locate it — in a vending machine for used electronics, close to an ICE detention center.

Abolish ICE doesn't go far enough. When a new regime takes power, they'll just divert violent immigration enforcement to another agency. We need legal protections for the people they target. Minimum standards for detention centers. Legal blockers and restrictions for how these agencies operate.
