Holy shit the number of people here who think summary execution is the appropriate punishment for negligent homicide.

That’s fucked up.

I just read The Monster of Elendhaven, and at first I couldn’t figure out the ending. So i went and read a few online reviews, and some of them were so amazingly wrong that it finally clicked and i think i get it.

Good book, but trigger warnings for violence, gore, an on-camera but not graphic SA.
Reminder to tell bluesky about the good things you read. Books, articles, blogs, Greek epigraphs written across your lover's skin, mystical sigils glowing on the walls of a brokedown palace, whatever really. Share good stuff.

this is so fucked up. these people should not be allowed to appropriate dinosaurs from people who are actually cool and good. we should send in the 82nd airborne.
We have added a new label “🦖: Dinosaur Emoji”. This emoji is frequently used by so called “Gender Critical Feminists” (Transphobes) from the UK to self-identify. To avoid false positives this will require manual review.

Honestly surprised to see the Brazil Twitter thing isn't a fascist crackdown but, like, a judge making a ruling against a corporation because it wasn't following the law? And so it's actually getting shut down?

Like, a judge. Upholding the law??

do you ever think about how if we took the money, materials, work, and time it took to construct (and maintain!) all the cars and roads?

we could probably use a fraction of those resources to build trains, busses, and bike shares, which would be more efficient and even save lives

Every time the aristocracy reinvents itself, we have to deal with it. We can't just leave it up to the orcas, people.

Dems should push back more, because the data is clear: mass deportations don't mean bigger slices of the pie for everyone else, they mean a smaller pie and thus smaller slices. It just damages the whole economy.

Here's a paper that was just published. carsey.unh.edu/sites/defaul...
One reason Democrats dumped Eric Adams from the Biden messaging team: He spent a year making a zero-sum argument that the more migrants you have, the fewer resources you have for citizens.

Emotionally powerful take and Dems haven't done much recently to push back.
Here is a passage in an American newspaper drily analyzing the sudden deportation of millions of people as a pluses-and-minuses housing and labor policy intervention. www.nytimes.com/2024/08/30/b...

gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that the failure to correctly label this kind of trash as racist and sexist is itself racist and sexist
I’d like a NYT style guide explainer about what “racially and sexually charged” means and how it’s different from racist and sexist when it references “an image depicting Ms. Harris as a dung beetle with her face covered in what appears to be blackface while astride a coconut”
