ICE’s pending $30 billion budget exceeds the military spending of nearly every country, including Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Iran.

ICE + CBP funding for 2026 would total $66 billion, higher than all but 7 militaries worldwide.
After a string of ICE murders, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries proposed reforms — and $11 billion more for ICE.

Including reconciliation bill funding, the Schumer-Jeffries plan would give ICE a $30 billion budget, higher than all but 15 militaries worldwide:

Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.
‘He’s not the same’: Father of Liam Conejo Ramos says 5-year-old continues to suffer
Some people thought they say the 5-year-old during the Super Bowl halftime show. But Liam is still in hiding with his family, after he and his father were detained and then released from a Texas deten...

“Collection of Handwritten Letters from Children in Detention Center” sounds like an exhibit in the Holocaust Museum.
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

local community is the only real way forward. maybe the people local to you arent 100% your vibe, maybe they dont share all your interests, or its not the most frictionless experience due to social anxiety, but thats what people had for all of history. you gotta make it work.

it drives you insane how much erosion of freedom is justified by concern for kids when the people who actually hurt them will never face consequences

Capitalism punishes and kills the most vulnerable.
During freezing temperatures in Port Arthur, Texas, a 61-year-old homeless man was found dead in his wheelchair outside a convenience store.

He was wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. Authorities say he had been released from a hospital the previous day.

This is a diseased society.

i often think about how much better the internet was when it was all usenet and irc, or even in the early days of homepages and blogs, but then i realize i am just describing the internet when it was still meant to help people communicate– now it mostly exists to surveil us and make companies money.

we should go back to open standards. usenet, irc, and rss were all much better than their corporate replacements. the web was built on open protocols, information sharing, and user empowerment, but we've let capitalism turn it into a hellscape.

See y'all, the instant it was no longer fun for Will Stancil, the minute he got criticized especially by women, he fucking starts talking about abandoning the cause. He's not getting the clout he wanted. No medals. He wanted to be a hero. This is Tim Poole shit.
I’m really proud of you guys. You ALMOST had to admit that maybe some liberals were on your side, that we’re willing to stick up for our neighbors and our principles, but you’ve successfully created a permission structure to hate us exactly as much as you did before. Well done!
Can't believe most of bsky was treating this guy like a modern John Brown as recently as last month. This dweeb would lose his MIND if he saw what Indigenous people in Brazil do with blockades.

every super bowl i am reminded of the time lady sovereign got me kicked out of my best friend's super bowl party because she wouldn't stop talking about how dumb american football was compared to cricket
one funny fact about me that i just remembered is i have been kicked out of three different places with lady sovereign– really she got kicked out and i was with her– a dave & buster's, the afterparty for her own show, and my friend's super bowl party.

We live in a total surveillance state, but we transitioned to it so quickly and with so little resistance that I think most people truly don't understand how much we're being monitored– searches like this are being quietly run for people all the time and it's only going to get worse.
