The bedroom row halfway through episode 8 of The Beast in Me is off the charts. Matthew Rhys is outstanding in this show as are Claire Danes and Brittany Snow.

Highly recommend this.

As an Australian, this thread is so informative. I don't know a lot about Bad Bunny, but this performance looks like it was superb.

The Life of Chuck is gorgeous. Telling the story in reverse makes the dreamy opening act hit you right in the heart.

I cried so much during this film. For the wonder of Us. The miracle that is our one life; our lived-in internal world that is its own kind of universe... while we are here.

CHOTINER: And the pizza place, what’s it called?

ME: Dominos.

CHOTINER: Right. And you can order from your laptop?

ME: Yeah. Well, I can also use my phone. Sometimes that’s quicker.

CHOTINER: And all the food in your fridge and pantry. When do you eat that?

ME: Now hang on a second,

So glad to see Marty Supreme at the cinema!

This film is a total banger of escalating stakes and drive and black-as-coal hilarity. Every time you think the circumstances can't get worse and that Marty is at the end of his options, it finds another gear. Great acting. Fine ending. So good.

Incredible night right now. Laying in bed watching auroras form and reform out the window.

These ones are visible to the naked eye, silver-green, candle-soft, flickering and twisting before the solar storm like something trying to catch fire over and over again within the cosmos.

No Other Choice is an excellent film. Left me sitting in the cinema with the same feelings of tragic bittersweetness that Parasite did. It's so thematically rich in its discussions of work-force automation and downsizing and the impact on the worker. Will be thinking about it for a while.

First time watching Casino as an adult (I used to watch this so much as a teen - to the point of quoting it) and oof!

The Shakespearean rise and fall of it. Everyone hoisted by their own hubris and greed (and bad luck and stupidity too). I forgot how chilling the deaths at the end were.

Or at least good.

The Sikh Volunteers do amazing work, and have turned up to provide meals during some of our worst natural disasters.

If you want to provide some material help to those impacted by the Victorian bushfires, this is one group you can support.
Victoria is in need. Sikh Volunteers Australia are seeking donations to assist with delivery of meals etc to help bushfire affected areas in Victoria. Donate if you can spare a couple of dollars... sikhvolunteersaustralia.org

My state cinema has a booking system that lets you see which seats are booked for which sessions (it's probably how most cinema booking systems are?) It's fun to trawl and see what's doing well.

Anyway: The Housemaid and Song Sung Blue are where it's at. And Anaconda just sold out a 6.30pm seating.

“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.” -- James Baldwin
this is why teaching history feels so important to me right now.
The thing I always come back to is how many people never despaired against longer odds, and how arrogant it would be to put myself above them.

I hope Amy Madigan and Sally Hawkins go head to head for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars (I'd love an all-villain line up). Two insanely good horror performances (Weapons and Bring Her Back) and both strangely aligned (a big year for villains taking hair samples).

Wow. Train Dreams is such a film for the soul.

To try to describe the experience of it is kind of to undercut it, but for me it spoke to the melancholy beauty of the aloneness some people have where they notice people in detail as they kiss off their lives before drifting away once again

Dangerous Animals is a very solid thriller. With sharks.

Jai Courtney is absolutely in his element here, getting to use his real accent. As for the Direction, I was already a fan of Sean Byrne's work with The Loved Ones (a messed-up horror in the vein of Misery) so this is another win.

So far, I have watched a film every day for 2026, while drafting my latest outline.

Tonight is a double-header: Cure for Wellness followed up by Dangerous Animals (a film I have been bursting to see ever since I saw the trailer). Australian murdery shark action! Let's do it!
