1/ Time for an updated version of my pinned thread from the bird site.

The science has moved on, but the car crash continues & I can’t stop watching.

This is a synthesis of everything I have learnt about Covid & #LongCovid in almost five years of reading the research.

Prepare for a long thread 🧵

Yesterday they gave £3bn to Thames Water.
Today they have to take £5bn off Disabled people.

It should be the other way around.

Currently reading a study about influenza aerosol transmission, published in 2020 and shows more RNA copies (log scale) in fine aerosol fraction.

In 2020…

and we still haven’t sorted out air safety in hospitals, and we are still whinging about flu being such a big problem (which it is).

Pandemics change people. We aren’t used to dealing with the mass death, disability & uncertainty that comes with them

Unfortunately due to technology & misinformation, society is choosing NOT to process its collective trauma

It IS changing us. Not for the better. We’re detached, colder & apathetic

"Measles is a highly contagious, serious airborne disease caused by a virus that can lead to severe complications and death."

First, trying to contain measles without using the word airborne makes as much sense as trying to control SARS by saying it's not airborne.

Second, WHO can say airborne.
Measles
Measles remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally, despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine.

“measles doesn’t kill anyone, touch grass, parent better, no masks ever!”

This was a response to my masks in healthcare article. Someone took the time to email me just to spread harmful lies.

We need masks in healthcare.

To protect the vulnerable AND those who won’t protect themselves:
We Need Mandatory Masking in Healthcare, and We Need it Now
Healthcare facilities should set the tone when it comes to masking. They should help patients protect themselves from Covid and other threats. Instead they push droplet dogma and put lives at risk.

Yes, I work out in a respirator.

I was used to it anyway because I wore one when I was a road cyclist in London.

It means I get a good workout, and nothing else.

Midlife Crisis Marathon Training: Day 1

I alternated running and walking for a minute each for 20 min.
Distance: 1.53 miles

It was surprisingly hard and everything jiggled. It’s almost like you’re not supposed to stop running for 5 years then pick it up again…

When I trained in medicine I was told that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) was rare. I expected to see a handful of cases in my whole career.

Now I have Long Covid related CFS myself, I know of many affected colleagues, & saddest of all, 3 of my kids’ friends.

A study suggests that catching COVID-19 significantly raises the risk of developing ME/CFS (formerly called "chronic fatigue syndrome"), a typically lifelong condition that can be debilitating.

Any society where wealth is vastly unevenly distributed is by definition anti-democratic, even if it has the right to vote.

One of the many ways to achieve democracy is to smash neo-liberal capitalism in favor of govt provided basic income, healthcare, food, and shelter, and transportation for all.
