Any social housing tenants in the UK had trouble with their landlord granting permission for full fibre broadband? Mine want Openreach to produce plans, drawings, specifications and insurance details which Openreach say they don't provide because they are Openreach.

Was at a pub for dinner and the table next to me was a group of rich farmers (Rolex watches, expensive cars etc). They spent most of their meal whining about how HMRC keeps making sure they aren't paying their workers in cash because it means they can't fiddle their taxes as much as they used to.

It's difficult enough /when you aren't/ an asylum seeker. Can't imagine what it's like for them.

I was also just telling hutch that this is a roundabout way of denying healthcare. Referred for hospital care? HO moves you. Need to be referred again. HO moves you again.
Most people in the UK really have no idea how extremely difficult it is to navigate the bureaucratic maze that is our healthcare system when you're an asylum seeker. It's a form of slow institutional violence where we effectively withhold healthcare and blame it on asylum seekers' "incompetence".
For asylum seekers with limited English and/or limited prior access to medical care, the process of changing GP is extremely challenging.

Besides which, you might have highly complex healthcare needs, likely including trauma, and so recounting your health issues to new doctors may be triggering.

Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

I’m pretty sure it was proven that those “autonomous” robots were piloted by workers in India/South America. So they’re basically replaced low paid gig economy workers with even lower paid gig economy workers but are pretending they’re robots.

Same with Amazon Fresh IIRC
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

This is a really good New Republic article about trans people leaving the country. Do some research about getting visas. Start now. It is harder and slower than you think, and there are no opportunities for asylum right now. It also is entirely doable.

Reminds me of when a female leopard seal spent 4 days trying to feed a human, I remember at the time it was theorised that his camera lens reminded her of a pup opening its mouth to ask for food.
as so often, the explanation is probably 'animals feel emotions that are similar to ours, and when we disregard the evidence to avoid 'anthromorphism' it's fundamentally ideological, not scientific'
this might be the saddest story I've ever written, about a seal that I will be thinking about for a long, long time.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

My old catflap died and as I have two giant cats I'm replacing it with the much bigger pet door version (for large cats and small dogs). How do these giant cats keep finding me. I'm known at the vets because the combo of them and me (barely over 5ft) is so funny.

Already have a smart TV but I got so fed up of adverts on my home screen that I bought a cheap android TV box so I could install a launcher on it which doesn't have any ads. Adverts in every streaming app has pushed me to my limit apparently.

Finally got buscopan on my repeat prescription thanks to the gastroenterologist I saw a few months ago. Been having to buy it regularly for years, I dread to imagine how many hundreds of pounds I've spent on it. It's essential for me but for years GPs have refused as it's available over the counter.

IIRC complications from puberty blockers result almost exclusively from their use in treating precocious puberty, not as a part of trans healthcare. It's almost as if "concerns" over health were not the primary motivator in opposition to PBs for trans kids.
Because it’s cis kids.
The NHS will quite casually give cis kids whatever treatment they need, even PBs👇
