When I first transitioned, I would drive a mile to a public gender neutral bathroom rather than use one at work. I found out later a dozen staff held “meetings” about what they would do if I used the women’s room. I was their boss’s boss at the time, still had no recourse, just had to let it happen.
The BBC reporting on Beth Upton’s current employment situation is definitely not in the public interest, and it is insane how much the British press freely get away with harassing her for the crime of simply living her life existing as a trans person in the UK.

Matt was absolutely delighted to repeat the smears that Gabriel and Labour Together produced in partnership. He had the time of his life repeating and embellishing them for his audience. What he’s saying here is an insult to the public’s intelligence, a giant roaring Fuck You to the country.

There is no earthly way in which Burrows can sensibly claim that extradition issues over politicised justice concerns, imposed on Ireland by independent courts, is anything like the state gunning down innocent people in the street. On this basis he should be asking the US to apologise too...

Just to reiterate that all you need to know about UK class system is that Lord of the Flies is read as a comment about human nature and not about how inept and bullying public school boys can be.

Every single person involved in this hate campaign and everyone who has supported them - Anas Sarwar, for example - needs to be run out of public life the way they've run Dr Upton out the NHS. Being trans isn't a risk factor for people around you; this obsessive hate absolutely is.
Susan Smith of For Women Scotland is quoted in this piece saying that Dr Upton leaving the NHS will be "a relief to female patients."

The employment tribunal found that Upton had done nothing wrong! She was completely innocent of any kind of harassment!

V odd disclaimer from O'Connor when he said he was not working to an agenda when he asked re Pres. Connolly not using "London"Derry.

TW suicide

Cass talks about brutal surgeries in her interview.
There is nothing more brutal that the latest statistics showing the rise of trans suicides after the PB ban. Yet, she ignores that fact.
How dare she sit in judgement about life saving care, passing it off like prescribing aspirin. 🏳️‍⚧️

This is the most important thing you will read this weekend. Make sure you do and that you act on it. This is not a drill.

Labour’s Trans Section 28 is shameful and disgusting and, more than any else, demonstrates how low the party has fallen. Every Labour MP needs to feel the heat about this.

In Northern Ireland, where the Equality Act does not apply, the DUP Education Minister has unilaterally banned trans kids in schoools and the UUP Health Minister has unilaterally stopped participation in the puberty blocker trials, both citing legal cases they can't be arsed waiting on.

"I believed what I was told by liars" is one of only a few consistent positions the Labour Party has.
Yvette Cooper is asked why she banned Palestine Action

"I followed the clear advice.. which was very clear about the recommendation for proscription of this group.. you have to take really seriously advice you are given.."

This is clearly the line she's going with.

There is zero evidence that their ban on puberty blockers has helped a single child and plenty of evidence that it has resulted in the deaths of over 20 trans children.

They know all this.

They are happy with how things are going.

Cw: BBC transphobia, suicide

The Palestine Action judgment does not yet have legal effect, as no Order has been made and it looks like an appeal will be made.

That said, there is no barrier to the police dropping the charges already made after the mass arrests.

That is a separate and distinct decision.

Useful summary of state of play on key econ policy areas. Some observations.

1. Glaring omission of immigration! The key area where a shift (not to "left" but away from blue/black/reactionary Labour) would clearly be a big positive for growth! [as FT has often pointed out.

Slate’s first example of this supposed sea-change among Democrats is Rick F*ing Wilson?!

RW is against Trump. Great. But we should never give him an inch of a platform to speak from, because his soul is still poisoned with the stuff that grew Trump in the first place. Like fat-shaming and ableism.
No. This guy isn’t even a Democrat and fat-shaming is not what people mean when they talk about ‘dark woke’ or ‘woke 2’.

I may say more later but part of what some of us need to understand is that the right has built an entirely distinct civic society, with its own hierarchy and (mostly networked) cultural institutions. That includes celebrity.

Really helpful about what the Epstein class is, here: it’s corrupt officials from captured political parties turning their connections into money, by acting in concert with donors and various billionaires including straight up criminals, to buy up whatever is left of the postwar settlement.
