I can’t stress this enough. The state of 4th Amendment law is that the cops can’t force you to type in a passcode but they can force you to swipe your finger or present your face. Never stop using passcodes/passwords to unlock your devices. And consider additional code to unlock Signal.
The FBI was able to access Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson's Signal messages because she used Signal on her work laptop. The laptop accepted Touch ID for authentication, meaning the agents were allowed to require her to unlock it. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

Worried about the surveillance dystopia? There are ways to disguise yourself from facial recognition systems, and it doesn’t require owning clothes with a special design or high-tech gear. @evystadium.bsky.social has more.

Here's an opportunity to support the other journalist arrested today; Georgia Fort, who will have far fewer resources available to her than Don Lemon.
Georgia Fort's is chilling, and it's being overshadowed by the equally chilling arrest of Don Lemon.

A GoFundMe is being set up for Fort. In the meantime, you can support her work directly – without paying massive fundraising platform fees – through her website:

There’s no reforming a system that put a sick child in a locked facility to spend her last days alone and afraid. Burn it down, salt the earth, put the perpetrators in prison.
Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez died in government custody.

She had sickle cell and congenital heart disease but couldn’t access timely and adequate medical care.

We need to reform immigration detention.

These are mostly children.

This is where Liam Ramos is being held.

They’re screaming “let us out” and protesting the brutal conditions.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.
