Also in exciting news: I've published my little blueprint exceptions plugin on the Fab store. It lets you raise blueprint exceptions from Blueprints and CPP using Assert and Verify behaviors. With support for auto-breakpointing on errors and custom diagnostic messages

The UX for entering alt text on the android version of this app is so fucking broken that its not uncommon for me to just not post silly/fun/cute things because having to enter the alt text for the third time because the process broke twice already feels like too much effort

The secret to networking in video games is to meet lots of peers at a similar stage in their careers. Identify one who's really talented; you must then kill them and bury their heart under a crossroad. A thing wearing their face will contact you in 7 days and offer to elevate you, at a price.

I just don’t like the word networking and refuse to use it. I try to just go gatherings and not make a tit of my self and hope others notice that and respect the attempt. But that’s not as catchy a name for it.

I sit down for 5 minutes to take a little rest from my cleaning and there's immediately a baby asleep on me. She's so very clingy

In the past week, I've seen stories of AI:
- being used by middle schoolers to make porn of other students
- calling innocent people sex offenders
- shutting down highways with busted-ass self-driving cars
- emitting more CO2 than New York City

What the fuck are we even doing?
New from me: The storied fiddler Ashley MacIsaac wanted to play a show at a Nova Scotia First Nation. It got cancelled because Google's AI search summary incorrectly called him a sex offender. Now he's worried for his safety www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/arti...

My response to much of the AI-based doom and gloom going around can be summarized as: Yes, if everything happened as these CEOs are claiming, it would be catastrophic

But they're also as credible as the CEOs (often the same guys) claiming that every game would be on The Blockchain with shared items

it would actually cost SO MUCH LESS to just do this instead of throwing trillions of dollars at technofascists too, who would've thought
they didn't need AI to make Silksong, it just needed some deeply insane guys to have a blank check for living expenses until their next thing was done, I think we should try doing more of that instead

If anything the nonsense AI hype has only increased the amount of work I'm doing.

There's so many established and applied usages of AI in game development - including generative models - that don't compromise ethics or degrade product.

And so our job is fighting to keep that message out there.
I cannot imagine how much harder your job in particular has gotten over the last couple of years.

Loppan has started tolerating Ester sleeping next to her now, which Ester is extremely happy about

Ester is asleep as well now - I accidentally woke her up for this picture because I'm not used to a cat that can hear me

We won't put GenAI in the assets, where people can see it and complain. Instead we'll use it to build the entire foundation of our project, creatively and organisationally, and never, ever ship the damn thing

Can't complain if there's no game to complain about 🧠
As the backlash to generative AI in video games continues to pick up steam heading into 2026, it'll be fascinating to see what is considered "made with generative AI." Can a dev team say they're not using AI if they're writing design docs with Copilot or using chatGPT to make schedules and budgets?

Older gamers are generally more favorable to AI-generated content in games than younger gamers, but the majority across all age groups remain negative.

the big difference between procgen and "ai" is that procgen is straightforwardly a creative/authoring process like any other, whereas "ai" by its nature precludes both things. but even with procgen you can approach it from a cynical direction and fuck yourself

Our composer, @odaodaoda.bsky.social made a new version of the soundtrack, especially for vinyl. It’s more ambient than the original album, channeling the peaceful vibes of Tiny Glade 🍃

"[Elon probably] knew it would be horrifying to others. But he decided that it was a better approach to shut it down, fire everybody, shut them out, and then go rebuild."

A test of whether the U.S. can recover its moral health after all this is whether we hold Elon Musk, genocidaire, accountable.
This is horrible. Trump and his crew shut down USAID, which has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, and they had no idea what they were doing or what would be the consequences. Completely immoral.
