I can vouch for Matt as a lamer more outdated version of me. Please vote for Matt for St Paul DFL chair.
I consumed things like @streets.mn, did random wayfinding projects to encourage folks to do more of their trips as a pedestrian, and started being known for live tweeting public meetings and events (think a lamer St Paul @wedge.live for the mid 2010s). 8/

Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

i was talking with someone in the twin cities about how it’s not even accurate to call them protesters. they’re literally just people protecting their city from TERRORISTS.
Every time the Trump regime uses the words "funded protesters" and "outside agitators" news outlets need to cut to this photo from last week.

ICE has invaded these communities. Outside agitators don't show up in their fucking bathrobes.

Another video, taken by a north Minneapolis resident from across the street…shows federal agents firing numerous times into the house, breaking a second-floor window.

…at least five people, including one small child, are in a house while law enforcement lights flash outside.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

Fraud is a serious crime that merits laying siege to an entire city and collectively punishing every immigrant from Somalia.

It's also a crime for which you can be pardoned and relieved of compensating your victims, so long as some of the money you stole finds its way to the president.

There is no recalibrated or sanitized way to conduct the war that Trump and Stephen Miller are waging on American cities right now. That’s because it’s a campaign of deliberate terror.
The policy *is* the terror, and the terror *is* the policy.

American Indian Movement (AIM) patrol trucks have been spotted around NE and folks are flagging them as suspicious and giving them unwelcoming glances because they don’t know who they are. This is the AIM logo and flag, which you might see on their trucks. They are friends!

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

How you can tell the protesters aren’t paid agitators: Watch the videos. It’s the accents.

Those accents have a favorite Zorbaz.

Those accents can tell you EXACTLY where they were on 10/31/91.

Those accents have thrown a bra off the SkyGlider.

this was amazing to see in north minneapolis. we are going to win. if you can make noise your neighbors got you.
Blowing whistles works. ICE was at 40th and Victory Memorial pulled to the side after they talked to Robbinsdale Police and holding down my horn and whistle for 5 min brought out 10-15 neighbors nearly all with whistles.

Because the media does not know how to frame what is happening, they keep referring to regular Minnesotans as protesters. But there is very explicit training that so many people done to learn how to be a constitutional observer. People are bearing witness to kidnappings, with phones and whistles.
by @democraticwins.bsky.social CNN just aired a devastating compilation of all the times ICE brutally attacked Americans. Remember, Donald Trump sponsored this. This is done at his command.
