If I had to pick a team to bandwagon, it would be the Goldeneyes because Sarah Nurse was my first favorite player and I fell in love with the sport because of her. I was super sad they cut the Punjabi player they drafted though, I was going to be all-in for her

Totally thought I was going to get torn to shreds for this, thanks to everyone who chimed in for the nice conversations! I hate saying anything negative about women’s hockey because it’s my favorite thing, but this has been bugging me
Confession, I’ve struggled to get into PWHL. I don’t like the Frost organization and can’t bring myself to truly care about another team, a central entity owning every team lends a weird vibe I can’t place, and I find NCAA much more exciting to watch + have a team I’ve cared about for a long time

Re: Coyne, my impression is she was in Klee’s camp during the first season locker room issues. A lot of people think the issues started with Curl but forget how bad things got in the middle of that first season for team dynamics

Re: Heise, that’s exactly what I mean with lower play quality in this league. These players are all amazing, but in PWHL they don’t play as well together. In NCAA or international there’s a lot more team synchrony and the game is more fun to watch. PWHL playoffs this year were rough

Ah I see, I didn’t know that! The MLS teams all feel more homegrown to me but I’m such an outsider, I go to Loons games and yell and have a great time but really don’t know much more than that

Jaques hurt so badly. Thompson I really like, but I’m more ok with that because she’s returning to med school after this season and her hockey career will be over. The expansion draft choices signaled they were prioritizing a weird old guard culture and I just really did not like the implications

I really don’t like the mean girl/villain persona the Frost + fanbase has leaned into and most of the players I liked got let go during expansion

Yes the homegrown aspect of the whitecaps was amazing. I never went to a whitecaps game in person and only followed them for two years before the league disbanded and I still felt more excited about them than the Frost somehow.

On that last bit, a total me-problem is I cannot find the same passion for a new team that I’ve had for my college team, especially when my previous approach to pro hockey was passionately cheering for my favorite players and now they’re all on different teams

Wanting two-way players is a good argument if you’re picking between a few mid-tier guys to fill out your fourth line but it’s indefensible to leave off the top offensive American skater based on that criteria.
