i’m only one ep in but the new ken burns does an unusually good job depicting how the worst and best of american identity and character were present at the creation. it’s a shift from the civil war where imo he presents the american soul in more binary/dichotomous terms.

Holiday reminder!
Do not shame/scold your young relatives Thursday if they do not show you affection.
You do not have the right to hugs or kisses.
Teach consent early by showing them you value theirs.
I like to say “Good to see you! Do you want to gimme a hug? or a high 5?” If they say no, cool.

Another federal agent operation in St. Paul draws large crowds of protesters
Gov. Tim Walz said state officials were monitoring a “chaotic” situation “and working to understand what unfolded. We received no heads up from federal authorities on this operation.”

this is it, this is the wrongest thing I’ve ever read on the internet.
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

A rising tide should lift all boats (not just the yachts).

→ When the economy expands, everybody should reap the rewards.

Since the late 70s, policy choices have led to the bigger boats getting lifted while the rest of us feel like we're sinking.

The Productivity–Pay Gap
The huge gap between rising incomes at the top and stagnating pay for the rest of us shows that workers are no longer benefiting from their rising productivity. Before 1979, worker pay and productivit...

Can absolutely confirm, during lulls in bodega mayhem, the topic of conversation frequently turns to how epically Target has shat the bed. We alternate between complete disbelief and just laughing and laughing and laughing at how blockheaded their c-suite chucklenuts must be.
ALSO, today’s 1,200 word front page story by the Strib’s retail reporter (the Strib doesn’t have a labor reporter) devotes exactly one sentence to Target’s blunders, implying that the boycott was brief.

I wonder whether the retail reporter ever reads the letters to the editor; this one ran on Sat.

I'd also like to see mandatory re-testing every five years when drivers renew their license. There were no bike lanes or green pedestrian crossings or multimodal roads when I got my license.
"The goal is not to punish drivers, but to make roads less forgiving of distraction by aligning human psychology with physical design... policymakers must embrace the same logic — insist on streets & communities that demand cognitive engagement behind the wheel." www.startribune.com/mn-car-accid...

"Many well-studied changes show that thoughtful street design is key to reversing course. Narrower lanes that slow traffic, adding curb extensions to increase pedestrian access & visibility, & physically separating bike lanes from car traffic are a few examples."
