Considering persuading @andrewhickey.500songs.com to drop a thorough, line by line analysis of Lily Allen’s West End Girl.

Not because it belongs in the genre. Mostly so we can hear him enquire, “who the fuck is Madeline?” with genuine earnest.

I have listened to 2 episodes of Whickey's podcast A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs @500songspodcast.bsky.social after you gave it a strong endorsement a couple of weeks ago or so and it absolutely is excellent. Thank you.

Oops indeed!
listening to an early @500songspodcast.bsky.social podcast and am wondering when the OG idea of keeping them down to 25 minutes became a casualty 🤔

I'm c. 70% thru the most recent episode of @500songspodcast.bsky.social on PROUD MARY by Creedence Clearwater Revival, past where Andrew Hickey directs listeners to a definitive history of Bobbie Gentry's ODE TO BILLIE JOE—from COCAINE & RHINESTONES by @tylermahancoe.bsky.social—so got that queued:

Absolutely the best podcast on rock history, and this episode on Creedence is first-class storytelling.
New episode just rolled out!

We’ve covered Tina; now it’s time for the steady, bluesy original. Andrew looks at “Proud Mary” and the brief but productive career of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

One of the joys of @500songspodcast.bsky.social is realizing that you, me, generally don't know shit even about the music you love and have "grown up" on. Maturity is recognizing that these gaps are not embarrassing. They are a fantastic opportunity for joy and growth.
I have told the story before about the interview a very young Dulé Hill gave in which he was going on and on about this incredible singer he'd just found out about, who turned out to be Marvin Gaye.

That story and this comic are forever intertwined in my brain.

You know what's a good album? Revolver, by the Beatles.

Controversial opinion, I know. But it's that kind of shocking contrarianism you follow me for.
