Unix v4 tape found. Apparently no other complete copies are known to exist. It was the first version in which the kernel was written in C. It also had minor changes to the UNIX file system‎ (such as the ability of any inode to hold a device 'special file'.

This is why it's different. It was unfair that Biden was given no credit for the soft landing but people were still traumatized and still felt discombobulated. Trump promised to bring morning in America and not only hasn't the economy improved the entire culture is in chaos.
but also, Biden inherited something in rough shape and made it better and Trump inherited something in excellent shape and made it worse. But that said, people are mostly responding to nominal prices (CPI has ticked up post April) and deteriorating job market (which Trump is largely responsible for)

@kaine.senate.gov and his office have been excellent about responding to constituent submissions. I am hoping for a clarifying response to my concerns here, but I am only one person. We will see.

The White House is doubling down on letting 42 million Americans go hungry, appealing a court decision that demands it must pay 100% of the SNAP benefits it blocked.

It's unconscionable and the American people won’t forget.
November 10, 2025 at 7:19 PM
So Trump is already setting out that he has no intention of honoring the Senate deal the 8 Dems fell on their swords for.

Trump is only focused on leading a government that puts money in his and his billionaire donors' pockets.

As Americans struggle with higher costs across the board, he's asking SCOTUS to freeze full SNAP benefits again.

Does it get more cruel than this?

Today I wrote about the Trump’s latest effort to pardon his election denier henchmen. While we may be focused on the shutdown, Trump continues to subvert democracy and target free and fair elections. I started Democracy Docket in 2020 to expose just this. Subscribe now. hubs.ly/Q03M8rql0

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Chuck Schumer was, is, and always will be the Senator from Wall Street.
I feel so stupid trying to eke wins out of this. I get why some of them did this, but in an overall sense they broke and made it obvious. A group that really needed help to stay moralized has just been kneecapped. I refuse to despair, but I make no promises regarding being really pissed off.

No roundup today (personal life intrudes), but I would say that if you're a family on SNAP or a federal employee, it must feel good to not be a hostage for a bit. This is a short-term reprieve until January 30th, where a much more bitter fight will begin. I'm not cheering, but also not despairing.

And the truly craziest thing abt this cave is that someone seeing the invasion of Chicago firsthand, Dick Durbin, doesn't understand this.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

This, from @americalabs.org (one of the smartest people abt leg procedure), counters what a lot of people are claiming about this cave. But the follow-on adds to what I noted abt setting up opportunities in January.
5) Dems showed (a) it's possible to get something out of "shutting down the government" despite what the pundits said, and (b) that they could hold together for 40 days. It's not a policy win, but it changes expectations for what they can do in the future, strengthening their negotiating position.
