Today marks the five-year anniversary of January 6th. One of the darkest days in our history, we witnessed our democracy pushed to the brink after the President incited an angry mob to storm our nation’s Capitol.

It seems more than an inconvenience for this psychopath that Venezuela has land borders with three other countries including Brazil.
Stephen Miller: "What the president said is true. The United States of America is running Venezuela ... by definition we are in charge because we have the US military stationed outside the country. We set the terms and conditions ... for them to do commerce, they need our permission."

The Beatles' weekend away from the Get Back sessions continued Jan 5, 1969 - 57 years ago - for them, a Sunday. Short context thread begins here.

While they were away from the cameras, they did talk about their night the next day on tape. With that in mind, let's start with the Sunday TV listings 📺

🧵For those who don't know, this has been in the works for a while.

There have been plans in the works to close down and consolidate some of the libraries with NASA.

But the closure of the Goddard library was never part of the plan.

Planning was being done to make Goddard the hub/main library.
The historic largest library of NASA, linked to the development of the Hubble and James Webb telescopes, is being closed by the Trump administration, resulting in job losses and strong criticism regar...
The Donald Trump administration shut down the library at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, threatening its unique scientific collection.

Noting the pettiness, I still think it’s worthwhile to note that Trump hasn’t made anyone the next president of Venezuela, other than removing Maduro.

This is of a piece with so many other administration stunts, where they get stymied or lazy or both after Step 1. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
WH sources say Venezuela's opposition leader committed the "ultimate sin": She accepted the Nobel Peace prize.

“If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today,” one said.

The real January 4 Get Back-related news happened in 1970. That was the final time the Beatles were in a studio together (until 1994), one day after they recorded "I Me Mine." This overdub session for "Let It Be" likewise featured just George, Paul & Ringo, with John in Denmark

Jumping to the TV listings, take note of the 9:50 listing on BBC-2. A few days later, when Paul McCartney suggests doing a take "once more, with Felix" - it's certainly a reference to Julie Felix's musical program

Like on the 2026 calendar, January 4, 1969 - 57 years ago today - falls on the weekend, and the Beatles took that Saturday and Sunday off from the Get Back sessions. But we still have some surrounding context to get a little bit of an idea about their day. Small thread incoming 🧵

DM: OK, roll for persuasion, at advantage.
Rodriguez: Um...6.
DM: You're at advantage, remember.
Rodriguez: I know, the other roll was lower.
DM: You're including your +2 for proficiency?
Rodriguez: Yes. I really didn't roll well.
<DM rolls and nods>
DM: OK, you convince him to help you.
And lo and behold, from the Miami Herald about how Rodriguez pulled off her coup and played Trump for a fool.

This also explains why Marco Rubio looks like such an ignorant, flailing little bitch right now. Because he is.

Among the many many F-ed up things about this, it feels to me like the opening gambits of the 2028 GOP primary. JD goes all in to consolidate the neo-Klan and neo-Nazi vote, and Rubio responds by associating with Latin American misadventures to look like the “serious”, more traditional candidate.
