Hey, I’m Dan Rivkin and I’ve been writing about the Beatles’ Get Back sessions since 2012 at theymaybeparted.com. Same guy you’ve seen @theymaybeparted in all the other places.
Pete Best said he didn’t have any input on the Beatles Anthology. Back when we used to get ad breaks, this commercial ran after the first segment. We don’t get these sort of things anymore in the streaming days 🍺🥁 youtu.be/pl_BpvLbaLY?...

Happy 57th to the mighty “The Beatles” LP, released today in 1968! The Get Back sessions story is very much an extension of the White Album experience — they reconvened at Twickenham less than 6 weeks later! — so I’ve written plenty on it. Tagged here! theymaybeparted.com/tag/white-al...

There's obviously a lot to say about Anthology 4, but I will say this first: Much as I wish we had fewer SDE reruns, I think "Good Night (Take 10 with a guitar part from Take 5)" should be on *every* album. Their 4-part harmonies make life worth living www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4Sd...

Happy Anthology re-release day! I was a college senior home for Thanksgiving break on Nov. 20, 1995, when Anthology 1 came out (30 years ago yesterday). I'm 90.9% certain I got it at this Tower Records in Nanuet, NY - but not at midnight.

Gutted to learn Gilson Lavis has left the material world. Squeeze has been such a formative influence & inspiration on me since I was a teenager, and it was a privilege to have seen him play with them live so many times (and with Jools Holland solo, where I took this). An incredible drummer. RIP 🙏🥁

It’s Halloween, so when someone’s knocking on your door or ringing your bell … Let ‘Em In! 🎃🍭👻

(Throwback to a few years ago when @wouldride on IG and I dressed up as Paul McCartney & Denny Laine on the Wings Over America tour … )

Looks like that’s from December 16, 1968. I wrote quite a bit about that particular day in the Beatles’ life here: theymaybeparted.com/december-16-...

I’m following these movies from something of a distance, but the fact we’re getting a Linda means we’re getting 1967-69 Beatles in these films (we don’t actually know timeline details yet, right?) and I’m happy with that much, at least.
Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Linda McCartney, the late musician who was Paul McCartney’s first wife, in The Beatles Movies, Sony’s fab four biopics slated for 2028. She joins Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn. What we know: bit.ly/4h27RJC

Greetings from the beautiful Akron Civic Theater, where I’m catching younger half of the McCartney-McManus songwriting team. I’ve seen him live maybe 6 or 7 times before but not for 25 years, somehow

Happy anniversary to our beloved Abbey Road LP, a spry 56 years old today and sounding as freshly fab as it did Sept. 26, 1969, the day it was released. Usual shameless promo: Catch up on Abbey Road’s deep roots in the Beatles’ Get Back sessions here: theymaybeparted.com/tag/abbey-ro...

For most of the 13 1/2-plus years I’ve written They May Be Parted, my dog Abbey Road would snooze either across from me on the couch or beside me on the floor as I typed. She was my everything companion and a wonderful dog. She left the material world Thursday but will always, always be here.

The Greatest Tea Room Orchestra in the World took the stage 57 years ago today, when the Beatles performed “Hey Jude” for Frost on Sunday. The experience planted the seeds and was a notable influence on the Get Back sessions months later. Related posts here! theymaybeparted.com/tag/hey-jude/

Celebrating the memory of Billy Preston, who was born 79 years ago today, Sept. 2, 1946! 🎹🎂

I posted this thread a couple years ago to celebrate the birthday of the incomparable Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze, and of course it still applies today, as we mark No 68 🎂 🧵
It's the 66th birthday of the great Glenn Tilbrook, so as per TMBP tradition, I'll stay on brand & share some Beatles covers and connections in this little thread. He and Squeeze songwriting partner Chris Difford never liked being called the next Lennon/McCartney, yet it stuck 🧵

This was the scene at Candlestick Park during the Beatles' final tour date, 59 years ago today. And as I ask every Aug. 29 when I post this: Could you blame them for not wanting to play on stage before an audience anymore?

We're official with the Anthology announcement. Bummer on 4 -- we get NOTHING new/remastered from the Get Back sessions, which had the most recorded audio by a mile of any period in their career. Just three tracks already on the 2021 Let It Be deluxe
August 21, 2025 at 1:41 PM
While we wait for the proper announcement amid all the leaks, genuine and otherwise, here's how things rolled out the first time around, when Paul let the cat out of the bag. From a wire report published Dec. 12, 1992 (so it's referring to Paul's statement the day before).

Meanwhile, this is my Anthology 4 wishlist:

107 LP/64 CD set of January 1969 Nagras. That’s it.

Carnival of Light can be on Anthology 5. (It won’t ever be on anything)
August 21, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Via my brother (via Reddit). I would listen to this all. Feels fishy to me with the Anthology 5 reference at the bottom. But who knows. We’re still in the fun anything-can-be-true phase!

Quickly catching up on a few recent news items: First up, the new John & Yoko box set. Much has been and will be made of the song that's conspicuously missing. That song's origin can be traced to about 2 weeks before the Get Back sessions, and I touch on it here: theymaybeparted.com/december-14-...
December 14, 1968: Countdown to the Get Back sessions
19 days until the start of the Get Back sessions John Riley is the star of the biggest Beatles-related dentist story, which happened in 1965. Riley covertly dosed coffee with LSD sending dental pat…
