Hey, I’m Dan Rivkin and I’ve been writing about the Beatles’ Get Back sessions since 2012 at theymaybeparted.com. Same guy you’ve seen @theymaybeparted in all the other places.
More on the story, this article from the December 3, 1995, Birmingham Sunday Mercury

Naturally, when I had the chance to speak to Pete last year, I asked him if he had seen Get Back

Happy birthday Pete Best! 🎂🥁

orst photo of the Beatles ever, yes? Almost looks like AI, decades before it existed.

I guess there's a 9.1% chance I got it at the Wiz that was just up Rt. 59 from Tower. If I did, I must have been sold on the fact it was "the Most Important Event In Modern Musical History."

(Enjoy your time capsule with the other items on sale in November 1995)

Happy Anthology re-release day! I was a college senior home for Thanksgiving break on Nov. 20, 1995, when Anthology 1 came out (30 years ago yesterday). I'm 90.9% certain I got it at this Tower Records in Nanuet, NY - but not at midnight.

(Adding this to main thread so it doesn’t get lost.) Gilson also tried out for Wings. Here he is talking about it in an interview with the Daily Mirror, Aug 78.

“I’m not in the slightest bit disappointed that I didn’t get to join Wings. I don’t rate McCartney’s music very much these days, anyway.”

That’s right! Here he is talking about it in an interview with the Daily Mirror, in August 1978.

“I’m not in the slightest bit disappointed that I didn’t get to join Wings. I don’t rate McCartney’s music very much these days, anyway.”

Gutted to learn Gilson Lavis has left the material world. Squeeze has been such a formative influence & inspiration on me since I was a teenager, and it was a privilege to have seen him play with them live so many times (and with Jools Holland solo, where I took this). An incredible drummer. RIP 🙏🥁

It’s Halloween, so when someone’s knocking on your door or ringing your bell … Let ‘Em In! 🎃🍭👻

(Throwback to a few years ago when @wouldride on IG and I dressed up as Paul McCartney & Denny Laine on the Wings Over America tour … )

Greetings from the beautiful Akron Civic Theater, where I’m catching younger half of the McCartney-McManus songwriting team. I’ve seen him live maybe 6 or 7 times before but not for 25 years, somehow

Happy anniversary to our beloved Abbey Road LP, a spry 56 years old today and sounding as freshly fab as it did Sept. 26, 1969, the day it was released. Usual shameless promo: Catch up on Abbey Road’s deep roots in the Beatles’ Get Back sessions here: theymaybeparted.com/tag/abbey-ro...

For most of the 13 1/2-plus years I’ve written They May Be Parted, my dog Abbey Road would snooze either across from me on the couch or beside me on the floor as I typed. She was my everything companion and a wonderful dog. She left the material world Thursday but will always, always be here.

The front page of the nearby Oakland Tribune: "Beatles' Screaming Teenies"

The page featured the on-field chaos and called out the money the Beatles were making.

A widely distributed UPI wire story also dwelled on the poor attendance and their fading fame.

One fan: "The beatles [sic] are nice, but they're not worth getting hysterical over," she said during the performance. "Actually, I think they are on the way down in popularity."

Meanwhile, the concert was pretty poorly reviewed by contemporary media. The headline in the next day's San Francisco Examiner: "Beatles Strike Out at Ball Park"

The November 1968 Beatles Book describes Tony Barrow’s personal cassette of the Candlestick Park show in an article about unreleased Beatles recordings. It’s under the subheading “GRIM”

This was the scene at Candlestick Park during the Beatles' final tour date, 59 years ago today. And as I ask every Aug. 29 when I post this: Could you blame them for not wanting to play on stage before an audience anymore?

We're official with the Anthology announcement. Bummer on 4 -- we get NOTHING new/remastered from the Get Back sessions, which had the most recorded audio by a mile of any period in their career. Just three tracks already on the 2021 Let It Be deluxe
