The American Revolution night 2.

Vaccines are good actually.

Slavery is bad, for everybody.

It's a foundational American tradition to tear down statues of disgraced and discredited leaders. Carry on.

He is a curse upon this land.
Leonard Leo is a lawyer, but he's never argued a case in court. He's never held elected office.

But for years he rebuilt the American legal system, resulting in the Supreme Court's right-wing supermajority.

Watching Ken Burns' American Revolution my first takeaway is "Oh, the leaders were land speculators, smugglers and slave owners, and unity was enforced by mob violence. That tracks".

Central New Mexico.

Small but mighty, this weekly protest has had the most outreach of any protest in New Mexico and provided a focal point for resistence in Sandoval County.

It would be a grave mistake to trade away the homes of irreplaceable caribou, polar bears and migratory birds for a little bit of oil.

Exactly this
This. This is my response when someone says everyone should own a gun.

If your society depends on everyone being willing to murder another, as well as an exponential increase in the death of those of us with mood disorders, your society has already failed.
This; “I’ll get a gun and use it to protect myself” sounds great in the abstract, but a gun is not a safety totem, it does not magically make you safer because it exists in your home. It is a tool that only protects you if you use it in self-defense to kill another human. bsky.app/profile/jsla...

Lemme sum this up: No, you should never hand your phone to a cop, therefore you use paper for your drivers license and insurance card. Go visit your granny, she has a printer.

Short version:

Trump: I'm dismantling the Constitution, building a paramilitary fascist army loyal only to me, blowing up the US economy for my billionaire cronies, and destroying the planet.

Schumer: Okay, but you have to extend subsidies for corporate health care

Trump: No

Schumer: Okay

Great thread by one of the smartest Congress-watchers out there ...
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

As others have said, we all need to be clear on the fact that what is happening in Chicago is a preview of what they are planning for all blue cities.

Especially as midterms approach.

They will tear gas us at the polls and say, oh, this isn't voter suppression. It's just business as usual.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Do y'all not know what a rotating villain is? Dems have been employing this strategy for decades, and you keep falling for it.

All of this was coordinated and calculated. Dems are the Washington Generals. They lose on purpose. They don't work for you. They work for their donors.
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

Do Not Cave
The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

There must be consequences and accountability. For all involved. This is mass murder.
Hundreds of thousands of people, dead because of a decision made by the world's richest man
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

It's going to get harder before it gets better. Stay brave and resolute.
No it’s important to listen to this. Because then you understand that many of them will do ANYTHING to keep power. Remember Musk got involved in the 2024 election after saying to Tucker “if she wins” I am definitely going to prison.

So we need to move knowing that nothing is off the table for them.
Steve Bannon: If we lose the midterms and we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison, myself included.

Trump continues to promote medicore white men.
Former NM congressman & bat-shit crazy Chair of NM GOP
*notorious public lands hater
*fossil fuel-funded climate denier who’s encouraged vigilantism against public lands
*devoted career to undermining protections for wolves and other wildlife and dismantling the most treasured places in our country
Trump nominates former New Mexico Congressman Steve Pearce to lead BLM
Environmental organizations immediately criticized the nomination, calling Steve Pearce "a notorious public lands hater."

This is the way
Remember, gang, if you’re yelling insults at ICE, stick to things that will be deeply humiliating if they’re read aloud in court. Consider “Your parents only love you out of obligation, not because they like you,” “l bet you jerk off to the Teletubbies” and of course, the Yo Mama joke.
It's not just here but in some charged threat cases where DOJ is treating, "you're a Nazi" or "you're a fascist" as a threat rather than a reasonable observation.
