I feel that over the last two years I have personally experienced the way social pressures to make conditions better for minorities in STEM have evaporated and while it’s understandable that people are distracted, it’s not acceptable that people are using that as an excuse

I am once again sitting and asking: is my passport valid? Can I visit my family abroad? Can I travel abroad for work or pleasure? And return home? I have actively avoided international travel this year and it seems like I will continue to do so for a while yet.

I repeat:
To my trans and nonbinary friends, I am so sorry that you have to deal with this hate. And I hope to see us reach the other side of it soon. And, we will reach the other side. This is horrifying, but it is ultimately the latest iteration of a time-worn tale. And their time always comes to an end.

I deeply appreciate this post. But I must say, as a resident of DC: subway was a sandwich of convenience, not necessarily our best representation.

We’re used to not having representation, though…
Warning to the feds: if Trump sends soldiers to NYC, we have very varied sandwich options at our disposal. You will encounter a fusillade of bahm mi, BEC, gyro, chop cheese, BLT, doubles, lox bagel, croque-madame, torta and döner.
Hell, half a Katz’s pastrami on rye could wipe out a couple of guys.

My shoulders have dropped a good two inches tonight.

Even though we’re not done, today is worth celebrating. Winning is worth celebrating. And taking time to celebrate is important.

From Evan: it's a huge night of hope for the trans community. The Republicans went all in on anti-trans ads in multiple races and so far there's no sign it got them anything.

Perhaps the page can be turned on blaming us for Harris' loss last year.

90 FUCKING PERCENT

i’d love for cis folks to remember what the nyt, atlantic, guardian, daily mail, times of london, ny post, cnn, wall street journal, & economist took from your transgender neighbors & loved ones before the next time you consider giving them money or listening to a word they say.
It’s almost like when you don’t have a rabidly trans-hostile media ecosystem, people generally support human rights.

I believe this to my core. They're using trans people as a test case to dismantle individual rights in the US.
Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

Last night DC neighbors showed up at a police checkpoint at 14th & V ST. NW with handwritten signs warning drivers to avoid the block.

After realizing that the community was successfully diverting all traffic, agents packed up the checkpoint and left. #WeKeepUsSafe
People cheer as some federal agents get in their cars and leave.

NY plates on their cars.

Like, yes, this article is goofy as fuck, but the people who can’t afford to take “micro-retirements” (it’s just time off) end up burned out as fuck.

Productivity isn’t the end-all be-all but multiple studies show that US work culture doesn’t make us more productive. It just makes us more tired.

In case you were wondering, the solution to all this is NOT more neoliberalism, abundance bros, mass incarceration, meeting Nazis in the middle, deporting people, coddling billionaires, or throwing trans people under the bus.

"I say it with a sad sense of the disparity between us. I am not included within the pale of this glorious anniversary! Your high independence only reveals the immeasurable distance between us."
