I wonder if the Columbia leadership realizes (or cares) how much blowback there might be from *within* the academy.

This post, from a Cornell Law professor, is worth reading:

Zohran Mamdani is very much not an antisemite.

Signed: Your very very Zionist and Jewish friend.
Well, at least we can retire that faded and false line, "antisemitism has no place in New York City."

An actual opposition party would be climbing over each other to file articles of impeachment, listing his wrongs and talking impeachment nonstop at every occasion, encouraging protesters and showing up with them in the streets

this is as good as turning the Constitution off. If this is what congressional leaders are going to do when an executive just seizes power from the legislative branch, we do not have one.

What incentive does anyone in the world have to negotiate with the US on anything?

Schumer should introduce legislation tomorrow that bars the appropriation of funds to support military strikes on Iran without congressional approval. Anything less falls below the bare minimum.

A resolution does not cut it. And Schumer - who likely supports war with Iran - knows it.
Senate Minority Leader Schumer is urging all senators to support Sen. Kaine’s war powers resolution, which would prohibit Trump from dragging us further into war. We need diplomacy with Iran, not another forever-war. Make sure your senators hear from you ASAP: act.indivisible.org/sign/no-iran...

Take note of who is and isn't condemning Trump's attack on Iran. Down the line, they'll try to claim they were against it all along. Do not let them. Take notes and gather receipts.

This framing exists because the decision is instantly obvious as one of the legal atrocities of US history, like Dred Scot, the 1870s Civil Rights Cases, Korematsu. The Times doesn’t want to say “The Supreme Court stripped rights out of law” so instead it says “Here’s why they did it to themselves”

Life hack: there is no way to make people love you by bombing them, and if they did love you bombing them will fix that.

Because, you see, there's no such thing as an attack on someone's life so legitimate that they say ‘yes, I had that coming, thank you, father.’

I strongly oppose Israel’s attacks against Iran and Iran’s attacks against Israel. Both endanger civilians and risk all-out war.

If you’re like my opponents and only condemning one side, I hope you find a spine and some moral clarity.

I obviously don’t know the situation as well as Walz does and am not going to tell people to put themselves at risk.

I will say, however, that if you shut down antifascist protests in an entire state because of fascist violence, you may provide an incentive for more violence.

Be safe.
Tim Walz is also advising people not to attend a Minnesota protest.

Out of an abundance of caution my Department of Public Safety is recommending that people do not attend any political rallies today in Minnesota until the suspect is apprehended.
