I've developed a bit of an allergy to the term 'neoliberalism' being used as an all-purpose snarl world by too many people on the left, but I think the hegemony of neoliberalism and its valorisation of the consumer really is why anti-intellectualism is so dominant in the culture.
We have got to make politics intellectual again. It is the only way that societies thrive is when politicians have the capability to actually think and reflect deeply:

Even if it worked perfectly as advertised, I would still be horrified how it's degrading our ability as individuals to generally articulate and process our thoughts, and I'd be distressed at how it's used to discipline labor.
