The Nashville radar is down. But, the good people who serve you every day at the NWS finally received the 130lb palette with the part on it. Their two techs are now lugging that part to the top of the radar tower to try and get the radar operational before SVR arrives. All while not being paid.

Bill Gates, in a talk at Caltech on Monday night, defended his stance on shifting funds away from climate change mitigation and toward global human health efforts.

"Science is being destroyed across many agencies" say federal researchers.

For my latest @nature.com piece, I spoke to 19 different scientists across EPA, NOAA, NIH, NASA, and USGS to document how science is being dismantled across US federal agencies.
Dismantling of US federal agencies will ‘destroy science’
From NASA to the National Institutes of Health, federal agencies conduct research that universities cannot. Agency scientists speak out about the irreplaceable facilities, institutional knowledge and ...

Anyone know what makes him qualified to share his *opinion* about climate change policy and societal impacts? I’ve been asked about this a few times this week, and people broadly are eating this up because… he’s Bill Gates. 🤦‍♀️

If you're mad about Daylight Saving Time, you could blame Benjamin Franklin, who first suggested the practice in 1784.

His cheeky theory was that if people rose with the summer sun, they wouldn’t have to buy so many candles.

The U.S. gov’s purge of datasets isn’t just sloppy, it’s disempowering democracy. When agencies cancel or gut data collections, they’re silencing the evidence that holds power accountable.

Hey, so as a veteran and incident responder I need to warn you to pay attention to something in America.

The human brain is resilient. While you're watching kids get dragged away from the parents and people being beaten in the streets, you're accumulating trauma but also being desensitized.

This is a very strange feeling, to watch Hurricane Melissa. Meanwhile stateside our Fed team of experts whose (small) program funds, plans, and helps support Hurricane evacuations, benched. Zones, science, timing, planning, staging teams. Decades of experience for our communities, furloughed.

this is because a successful bipartisan project of the last 40 years has been obfuscating all of the things the government does
I think very often people do not realize the sheer *scale* of government, particularly the US government.
There are already food banks/depositories in every district & a ton of Democrats have been doing events to support them, but if no one besides a staffer posts about it, no one knows about it.

Even with a massive support, it's not replacing $100 billion in SNAP. We need a functional government!

donating food to your local pantry is GREAT and helpful, but money is best imo because we work with vendors/places who are able to give us bulk food and better prices than the average grocery store. if you're debating between giving a pantry canned goods or $20? definitely $20
