I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

But worry not, he has a footnote explaining why his fixation on Soros "is not political."

It’s hard to top the presidential immunity decision for sheer unconstitutional awfulness, and the campaign finance and voting rights decisions are also in serious contention for Worst Roberts Thing, but what he’s done with the shadow docket is definitely up there.
Of all the terrible things Roberts has done, this was the most shocking stat: "the right-wing majority has used the shadow docket to uphold Trump’s actions roughly 90 percent of the time, repeatedly bailing him out of any obligation to follow the law"
There’s one person squarely to blame for Trump’s corruption, authoritarianism & assault on democracy: John Roberts. He’s enabled so much of Trump’s lawlessness while somehow escaping accountability for it

Yes. The issue is how Americans have come to view terrorism over past 25 years—from a criminal problem that might occasionally require US military response when it poses a threat to US, to something many assume *always* justifies/demands US military force. That’s what the admin is capitalizing on.
Cartels employ terrorism routinely. They kill journalists, mayors and mayoral candidates, and all manner of civilians to terrorize the rest into tolerating them. There are 99 problems with what we’re doing about them but calling them “narco-terrorists” ain’t one.

The government claims two weeks of surveillance footage from Broadview ICE Detention Center has been "irretrievably destroyed" and won’t be produced as evidence in a lawsuit against the government over abhorrent conditions there:

You might not have caught what just happened on the Senate floor, but the Senate just “deemed as passed” the Epstein resolution.

That means as soon as it arrives from the House, it automatically passes the Senate (with no amendments) and heads to the President’s desk.

Wow.

It strikes me that the Saudi regime wants nuclear technology for one of two reasons, neither of which say positive things for their remaining oil reserves.

We are going to hit this AI bubble at the same time we hit the peak oil bubble, and it sucks that we didn't install more renewables sooner.

This is pretty accurate. My only concern is the private credit side. There's apparently so much money being borrowed to build data centers it's boosting the US economy to avoid a recession. And I guess we just...don't know?

So if AI succeeds loads of people lose their jobs as they're replaced by AI, and if AI fails, loads of people lose their jobs as the economy crashes?
