‪Dear Senators @schatz.bsky.social & @hirono.senate.gov, as an HI constituent, I'd like to express strong support for a change in the leadership of the Dem. Senate caucus. Senator
@schumer.senate.gov
has now demonstrated time & again that he is not equal to the task in this moment of need.

‘We are not done with this fight’: Hawaii senators reject deal to reopen government
Both Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz said the compromise, which garnered the support of some moderate Democrats, fails to address rising health care costs for millions of Americans.

My electrification should be complete on Monday w/ induction stove install. 9kw of PV, 20kwh batteries, new EV, electric drier. Managed to finish in time to collect tax credits, and I'm very happy. Not cheap, but similar to a kitchen remodel. Helps to live in Hawaii with ample sun and no winter.

Based on his self-described behavior in The Double Helix and these actions it is easy and appropriate to write him off as an ignorant jerk.

This is called “stereo blindness” and it is quite common: about 7% of people under 60. Multiple distinct mechanisms can cause stereo blindness.

We identify four different approaches that all converge toward a prevalence of stereoblindness of 7% (median approach: 7%; unambiguous-stereoblindness-criteria approach: 7%; visual-defect-included approach: 7%; multiple-criteria approach: 7%). We note that these estimates were derived considering ad …

OMG cataract surgery was the best thing! I am so grateful to be able to see near and far without correction! But no Magic Eye recovery for me—it’s my brain, not my eyes, that can’t see them

Interesting, although not my issue. Just had cataract surgery with an extensive workup (my surgeon has been one of my best friends for decades), so I'm sure no medical problems.

Rings true to me. Also why driving when sleep deprived is so dangerous....

One of my most embarrassing (well, to me) weaknesses is that I never see these things. I don't know what is wrong with me.

A study in Nature Neuroscience shows that the moments of failed attention we experience after sleep deprivation reflect brief ‘sleep-like’ episodes in the brain, corresponding to a brain- and body-wide event with altered brain activity, pupil size and brain fluid movement. #neuroskyence 🧪

I am heartbroken about the destruction of American science and the economic catastrophe being unleashed. But most terrifying is the threat to our national security.

Gen. McChrystal: “Once lost, the legitimacy of a military that reflects and represents all Americans will be difficult to recover.”

Disagree. Building strength requires doing hard things. That's true for societies as well as individuals. JFK was responding to Sputnik, and part of his rationale for the moonshot was to build our strength as a nation. I think it worked, too.

Strength training is political. We have a right-wing which has taken over physical fitness spaces, and hijacked “warrior culture”.

We need a muscular progressivist visions. We need to be strong to build the world we want.

In this corrupt environment, if Green can bring in anywhere near $10B for the state (and other good asks) I’d be delighted. Military is going to military regardless.

As a long suffering Raiders fan, I don’t talk about football much here. But I have to say I appreciate a nice sunset while I watch the carnage.

My baguettes are feeling authentic these days, so I went French: Scalloped potatoes plus green beans and lions mane in butter and cream topped with fried shallots. Yum!

Overall sentiment seems to be to consider therapy chatbots like a prescribable drug that requires unprecedented post-market supervision. As opposed to a full-fledged personage that would require a professional license. cc @proflhunter.bsky.social

Thanks! I don't think it's reasonable to expect to be able to afford a step up in housing without doing some saving. One interesting calculation might be the required savings rate during condo ownership that would get someone to SFH downpayment.

I haven't seen anyone here posting about the FDA meeting about genAI and therapy chatbots. It's been going all day, and the most of the public comments are excellent IMO. Webcast here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Fo...
