A lot of medical and scientific leadership (looking at you, NAS) has been abysmal in the Trump era. These spineless worms are selling out the rest of us to keep their access to power.
AMA President acknowledged certain decision by Trump administration — including changes to childhood vaccine schedule & the overhaul of ACIP — could be dangerous for patients.

But he also emphasized the importance of trying to maintain a working relationship with the administration.

Disgusting.

That means new public health experts could lose access to key higher ed resources, like loan limits & reimbursement.

Massive cuts to American science funding are already conceding leadership to China in many areas. Ending all collaborations with Chinese scientists and cutting funding to any American scientist who had a Chinese student or postdoc in the last 5 years would be unbelievably destructive to the US. 💔😢
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

Reading is perhaps the most human of skills. No one is born with it so we have to spend years teaching it to our children. Literacy rates were once considered a measure of human progress. When reading is largely lost we call it a dark age; I fear we are facing another.
