If your whole thing is following a flag of a fandom into battle you risk becoming cannon fodder, or sweeping bad actors into power. I guess any revolution needs footsoldiers but wouldn't it be better if we're all somewhat educated on the subject

If Naruto or V For Vendetta or whatever is acting as a symbol for people, great, but that's superficial, emotional stuff. You do eventually have to sit down and learn history and politics to move on to step two

I don't deny Star Wars or Hunger Games or whatever nerd shit can play a huge role in firing up people's imaginations when it comes to aspirational politics--hell, that might be one of the biggest ways fiction can impact reality--but that stuff isn't a playbook for actual useful action

I mean hopefully they won't take over every country, we'll keep fighting them. People have to turn out though

It's a global problem and they're all coordinating unfortunately. Canada is actually a pretty big exporter of white supremacy (Gavin Innes, Stefan Molyneux, The Post Millennial) even if our institutions are holding SLIGHTLY better for now

Ubisoft closed its Halifax, NS studio a few weeks after the employees unionized. I have a couple of good friends who worked there, one had been a part of the studio for nearly 20 years. Miserable. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

years ago I made a tweet that was like "the thing they don't tell you about comics is how many god damn doorframes you have to draw" and i'm here to say: it continues. people opening doors. knocking on doors. stepping through doorframes. i'm still fucking drawing all of it. it never ends

We're back for 2026! An all-new episode about the kid's book Sir MacHinery, the tale of a robot who gets mistaken for a knight in armour, the tension between magic and science, and a lot of bad Scottish accents: what-mad-universe.pinecast.co/episode/467c...

Last RS: there might actually be something of value in a network news anchor actually traveling around the country in a bus or by commercial air to really see how the country lives but none of these guys would last five hours on a terminal floor at O’Hare

After ICE ads showed up on AEW programming on HBO and TBS, the Men's World Champion posted this. Fans cancelled memberships and wrote complaints every time they saw them. And guess what happened—the ads went away. Do this for everything.

I owe you an apology, John Hamilton Mortimer. I wasn't really familiar with your game.

(Detail from Mortimer's “Sextus Pompeius consulting Erichtho before the Battle of Pharsalia”).

As someone who exercises regularly, six times a week, usually hour/2 hours those six days:

No it isn’t a wonder drug for depression. It never has been. If you have a brain juice imbalance, no it doesn’t help a ton.

It helps in the fact that it creates a routine you can effect. Which is kinda big.

THIS. It's one of fascism's own myths about itself: that it is coherent, efficient, etc. No. History shows us that fascist regimes are contradictory, chaotic, etc. Fascism is not a coherent ideology but a ragbag of scraps held together with aesthetics. Fascist governments are gangs of cranks.
there is strange insistence — an implicit one — that fascism must be a coherent system

This is what we call discursive busy work where white people in media pick apart Elons tweets to hide the fact they have no one Black/ immigrant/ in Minneapolis etc etc

In any real close ties to talk to about this and that in the five years since George Floyd ain’t a damn thing changed

Apparently he's always kinda been like this, and the 2024 election managed to get his good side, as it were. Reminiscent of how people loved Biden during the 2008 election because he acted as an attack dog against Paul Ryan and some other right-wingers
