The Spirit of '92 incarnate. Hippie ideals, punk attitude, and a grunge wardrobe.

Rewatching The World at War and thinking:

1970s documentaries: Dryly understated, narrated by a RSC alum, simple handmade infographics, stodgy experts

2020s docs: IN YOUR FACE, narrated by a 90s standup, CGI up the wazoo, experts who look as if Roger Stone was in a 3rd wave ska band

Decided to migrate from Redream to Flycast (sepatate from the NAOMI Flycast install I have) for Dreamcast stuff.

A little fiddly but a bit more robust in terms of features. Still bittersweet because Redream was was got me back into retrogaming/emulation a decade ago.

Game journo: “What do you think of the Switch 2?”

Dev of an indie game that could run just fine on a PS1: “Un, it’s good, I guess?”

There's a sad sweatiness to game journo discussions of the Switch 2, as if "a more powerful refinement of an incredibly successful concept" is something to be ashamed about.

The problem is that trying to sell it as more than that only exacerbates the perception problem.

The "folk horror" theme gelled for similar reasons as the Eurospy one did.

Easy access to props, costumes, and sets/locales that gave a boost to low-budget productions.

See also Dr. Who coasting on the updraft of BBC's period serials during the 70s.
Also, for as much as folk horror (period not content) was lauded for reinventing old things, the stories themselves were new and looked at the moment in relation to the past. Not just somehow adding to an existing franchise.

Replacing aging XHDs was less of a chore before I archived half a century of popcult ephemera.

It’s not about “loyalty.”

It’s because he thinks axing people makes him look weak and vulnerable to pressure, and firing incompetents might be crowed about as a “win” by opponents and the media.

He’s faceplanting to save face, so to speak.

It was inevitable based on the success it had, but Stranger Things' arc from a taut Different Seasons novella to ABC's 1994 Original Miniseries Based on Stephen King's The Stand is kinda ludicrous.
