Very troubling article. Prior to 9/11 & COVID, we thought nothing of going back & forth across the border. I've been a frequent border crosser b/w Michigan & Ontario b/c of family and cultural ties, shopping, or traveling further east. This interference just makes our world that much smaller.

Including one of my Senators!
I know I’m a libtard but I think it’s bad the U.S. president keeps calling for the killing of specific sitting elected officials who didn’t even commit crimes

Especially important for those attorneys who use Gmail as their work email. You could be unwittingly violating your duty of confidentiality to clients!
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

This is pretty disgusting. My family’s historic parish, Ste. Anne de Detroit, is now mostly Hispanic. It breaks my heart to think of the gov’t possibly invading our parish to go after families who just want to go to Mass and have a few moments of sanctuary, peace, & hope.

I just don’t see how we can pretend even for a moment that anything involving our federal government is remotely normal when the president is covering up his involvement in a child sex trafficking ring. Like, what are we doing here

As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.

DO NOT COME AFTER THE HALIFAX EXPLOSION CHRISTMAS TREE ISTG
Massachusetts Republicans are so cooked that they're trying to attack Michelle Wu for "wasting" taxpayer money by visiting Nova Scotia to pick up Boston’s annual Christmas tree.

Now who's waging a War on Christmas, huh?

Many eons ago, I worked at ISR and worked on this survey. It's really the gold standard of knowing what U.S. customers think & feel about the economy for decades.

These results are NOT a good sign for the GOP.
The university of Michigan released its consumer confidence index.

US consumer confidence is at the lowest level since 1951.

Trump tanked the economy in his first term!

Is he’s doing it to us again?

Absolute BS in today’s majority ruling. AFAIK, most trans folk seem to just want to live their lives freely as who they feel they are & without interference. Not sure why anyone else should have any say in that?
Jackson's dissent, joined by Sotomayor and Kagan, says the evidence showed that gender-incongruent passports led to humiliating, invasive searches of trans Americans (including strip searches) since their gender marker didn't align with their appearance. The policy is both cruel and irrational.

Boy, the whole RW is not subtle about the whole “girls are icky” thing, are they?
The front page of the New York Times is asking if women belong the workplace and @aselrod.bsky.social and @liberalcurrents.com, come through with this.

Incredible timing.
Some on the far right want to repeal the 19th amendment. Many more share a coercive, patriarchal view of women.

I wrote about this and how the far right sees subjugating women as key to building the sort of electorate they need to win. @liberalcurrents.com

The long-running ideological war on libraries, education, and government workers is not separate from AI boosterism. It is the same ideological war on human knowledge and expertise. In some cases AI is being used to directly supercharge this effort:

Jeez, Louise…what would this guy do in a real war if he’s that traumatized by a slightly unwrapped Subway sandwich?
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

JFC, this is horrific. We should not be building enslavement camps (again) in the US.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

Whoopsies! It’s almost as if teachers get special training to do their jobs…
But within a couple years, some of those same Brownsville families wanted out of Alpha. They felt the school impacted their children, left them with glaring gaps in their education, and is now using the school to sell a story of success.
Parents Fell in Love With Alpha School’s Promise. Then They Wanted Out
In Brownsville, Texas, some families found a buzzy new school’s methods—surveillance of kids, software in lieu of teachers—to be an education in and of itself.
