21 years ago a single submarine of Swedish Navy sneaked past the extensive anti-submarine shields and sank air craft carrier USS Ronald Reagan in an exercise.

Sweden has since refined the stealth properties of the Gotland-class submarines and a newer class is under construction.
Swedish Radio program Gräns did an interview with commander Paula Wallenburg, top brass of Swedish submarines, guardian of Gotland depths.

She was also part of the crew that sank Nimitz-class carrier USS Ronald Reagan in an exercise in 2005.

Worth a listen!

The Europeans have done all they can to try and make this proposal serious and credible, but a serious and credible ceasefire enforced by western forces is the exact opposite of what Putin wants, because Putin's objectives for the total capture of Ukraine remain unchanged.

Then we move to journalists, who IMO are increasingly challenged as technical complexity increases.

From this problem to a degree. Some are adapting better than others. US auto makers don’t have this society wide caste system for engineers. The best software comes from newer companies like Tesla and Rivian (but Tesla plays fast and loose with safety). Chinese companies too.

Leadership does not come from a software background and the organization is not designed to develop software. It ends up being treated as an afterthought, even though the reality is that software is increasingly central to cars (Google software defined vehicle). All the legacy automakers suffer

Bug or defect are the correct terms. I spoke with a former BMW employee (now at Apple) about why German auto software is always so bizarre and buggy. He thought it was cultural— mechanical engineers are the top tier and CS/CE are lower tier and looked down upon.

Russian forces are mounting Igla MANPADS on Shahed drones to target Ukrainian helicopters that intercept them. The drones carry a camera and radio modem, and the missile is launched remotely by an operator in Russian territory.

focus on why people voted for a moron twice, it doesn’t make sense. But look at the macro level: incumbents were defeated twice after 3x 2 term presidents. There are true believers but mostly US politicians are very unpopular so the presidency swings between parties if candidates are roughly equal.

After four years – equivalent to all of the US Civil War or almost all of WW1 - it’s no closer to this goal than it was in 2022. There’s no reason to think that Russia, with a weaker economy, will do in 2026 or 2027 what it was unable to do in 2022-2025.

Strange story. Kapustin's "death" was a pretty big deal in the Russian press. Will they now renew the bounty on his head, or will they insist he is still dead?
Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) faked the death of Denis Kapustin, commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), and claimed the bounty placed on his head by Russia's intelligence service, HUR chief Kyrylo Budanov revealed on Jan. 1.

I’ve noticed that in Poland,
Everyone will wait. I don’t recall this level of compliance during the 80s and 90s. In the US, no one waits. Perhaps PiS is right, and the Germans are taking over :)

Seriously, im not sure id worry so much about “AI.” A very good, but also very expensive, autocomplete. I’m curious to see what shakes out once the magic accounting goes poof (my experience is the leadership will have cashed out and moved on before the plebes get wiped out).

Statistically so rare it’s ludicrous to lean into this as a solution except that we Americans are already culture war trained into specific (mostly useless) responses. Might I propose that effectively dealing with radicalization would be broadly more useful.
