Russia is running GPS-jamming machines in St Petersburg and Kaliningrad, affecting aviation and sometimes shipping around Baltic Sea.

Some of my most appreciated work has been localizing these machines in time, space and volume.

Here's a rundown of previous geo-work, reversed chronological order.

Yes, there are exceptions in the Copenhagen convention regarding safety and environment

But we need not that, these ships with false flags are lawless. Any nations navy can stop them anywhere (incl intl waters) to further investigate their status.

The goal is open for Baltic States on these ships.

Next zombie tanker! CHARIOT TIDE is leaving Russia laden with profit.

She has no owner, a false flag, likely no insurance and at the last inspection in 2024 she was found with 12 deficiencies (cleared by RU).

According to intnl law any nations navy may stop her to minimally clear up flag status.

No insurance = no go. Rule of law?
No flag
No insurance
No problem!

Rustbucket zombie-tanker ARCUSAT/TAVIAN/TIA will enter Baltics in ~3 days.

This will be her third fetch of Russian oil since October.

No flag, no state, no identity and no registry -> she is basically lawless.

Some would even argue states have obligations here.

Reuters reports that U.S. officials have discussed offering lump sum payments of $10,000 to $100,000 to Greenland residents as an incentive to secede from Denmark.

It might cover two or maybe even three hospital visits in the U.S., depending on coverage plan, networks, and luck

Nature preservation authorities in German state Rhineland-Palatinate has identified a previously thought exterminated gay wasp species in the surroundings of US Ramstein Air Base.

21 years ago a single submarine of Swedish Navy sneaked past the extensive anti-submarine shields and sank air craft carrier USS Ronald Reagan in an exercise.

Sweden has since refined the stealth properties of the Gotland-class submarines and a newer class is under construction.
Swedish Radio program Gräns did an interview with commander Paula Wallenburg, top brass of Swedish submarines, guardian of Gotland depths.

She was also part of the crew that sank Nimitz-class carrier USS Ronald Reagan in an exercise in 2005.

Worth a listen!

The US commander in chief has famously claimed that Greenland waters are teeming with Russian and Chinese vessels.

According to AIS data this is bollocks to speak European.

There are 8 Chinese and 0 Russian vessels in US waters, none in Greenland.

Reminder.

It is extremely unlikely that a grouping of 6 cable breaks in a week are explained by common causes.

A lot of cables break each year, and any one might be from a benign cause. But not this many.
There is an estimated 1 in 10k - 100k years chance that all 8 of the Nov 2024 - Jan 2025 Baltic Sea cable breaks are coincidental.

Background data is hard to get by but no matter which real data or reasonable assumption one picks it is extremely unlikely all 8 of them are explained by chance.

Impressive fast work. By the time anyone even properly noticed (on New Year people aren't really following news), the ship was already detained in a Finnish harbour.
A number of images from the FITBURG operation have been released by the Police and FBG, including showing both fast-roping from a FBG H215 Super Puma and an FDF NH90 low over the deck.

Updated map of cable breaks between Sweden and Estonia, based on press release from Estonian ministry for digital affairs.

The details are murky and partly incoherent and I have asked Swedish authorities for clarification.

Whats clear: there are several breaks on one cable.

Small cargo ship FITBURG (Russia to Israel) was helo-boarded by Finnish authorities after being found with anchor chain in water and suspected of damaging an Elisa-cable.
