Not to put anyone on blast but it is a very straightforward claim that some collective action systems can be optimal for each individual actor but clearly stupid. Like this is basic keynes shit
saying something the current market is doing is a misallocation of capital assumes that there is some ideal allocation and that you at least partially know how it's different

this is kind of a heavy claim

We won't begin to roll back the tide of fascism until white liberals come to terms with the fact that tens of millions of their fellow citizens actively, knowingly, support racist Gestapo policies. Tens of millions of racists were not deluded or misled. How will you adjust your strategy accordingly?

this is all vibes based bullshit - if they admitted that ~25% of the country are bloodthirsty fascists hoping for the death camps to get fired up yesterday they would have to act accordingly (ie not like wishy-washy liberal squishes)
How can anyone know what people “implicitly added” in their heads? And how does them rationalizing the literal words being told to them make it not true that they voted on the words?

What do you mean it isn’t true? Which part isn’t true? That he ran on mass deportation? Because he literally did. Or that voters didn’t vote on that? Because that’s a major claim that should be backed by evidence.

I'm having this garbage foisted on me by my work, and in the middle of a holiday when I'm trying to not think about it this post brought it all back

If this shit somehow were to become an actually mandatory part of being a software engineer the only job I've ever wanted to do will be dead to me
In essence a language model changes you from a programmer who writes lines of code, to a programmer that manages the context the model has access to, prunes irrelevant things, adds useful material to context, and writes detailed specifications. If that doesn't sound fun to you, you won't enjoy it.

I hate these charts so much because they imply chatgpt is comparable to the internet or phones

You could create the same graphic for full screen pop-up advertising on websites and make them look like ultra-rapid technology adoption when really they were just baked unavoidably into the internet

I can’t remember the last time I used a stapler, so this is just giving me a mental image of the poor thing forlornly following me around occasionally hopefully saying “you staple now?”.
Also, this just in -> the latest bizarre AI fever dream is AI-controlled trivets, staplers, and coffee cups on wheels. So we'll be chased around by inanimate wheeled objects clamoring for our attention.
