The vibe here is really "guy who was part of a U.S.-aligned death squad got told he's getting sent back to Afghanistan to die"
well that tracks

(also should put to rest any bleating about “vetting” but we live in hell so)

More left-leaning people need to think about national security.

Regardless of what you think about governments or militaries, you have to have them.

Because of this, the people who run them should agree with you on where violence should be used.

Is it Russian troops or Venezuelan fishermen?
I hate this sort of meme.

“The only difference between the parties is whether the power to destroy human civilization rests in the hands of leaders who think gays, women, and black people should have their rights acknowledged.”

Even if true, how is Rainbow B-52 not infinitely preferable?

I think among any randomly chosen group of 10 US intelligence professionals you'd get at least 9 votes to hang Pollard, and that's only accounting for someone having a deeply held belief against capital punishment in general
so a couple of notes on this. a) everybody in US intelligence I've ever talked to about this *despises* Pollard, b) although he tried to portray himself as devoted to Israel, he was casting around to sell secrets to other people, including the South Africans, for cash.
This Administration has a gift for doing the exact wrong thing.

A Trump supporter started murdering his way through an assassination list of Democratic law makers FIVE MONTHS AGO. He murdered my colleague Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark — and attempted to assassinate my dear friend John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. I was also on the hit list. WTF

conceding to far right ideas about the structure of society is conceding to a zero sum vision of the world, and more importantly giving voters a choice between two zero sum visions, where one is half hearted and the other is full throated. is it really a surprise then they choose the latter?

Same.

To be honest, I think recognizing this makes Southern Liberalism, when it appears, more heroic. Frank Porter Graham was a better North Carolinian for being a step out and ahead of the rest of our state. LBJ, for all his flaws, was a bold Southerner for being a Civil Rights Southerner. Etc.
as a white liberal with Southern roots, quite frankly, I think other white liberals from the South need to get the fuck over their oddly defensive attitude about what should be pretty blindingly obvious.

We actually had a system in America where suspected criminals, especially alleged sex criminals, were extrajudicially murdered instead of being tried and sent to prison. It was called lynching and you should look it up!

I‘m tired of being nice about this; “abolitionism” has had years to develop a non-idiot policy program and the best they’ve come up with is ”murder without even the pretense of juridical process.” And I am not nut-picking; this is all over abolitionist writing.

A fun thing about the new leaked Epstein docs is that the email he was using to talk to Wolff (shockingly) shows up in a ton of data breaches. So if you want Jeffrey Epstein's Quora or Goodreads account hmu

Idea for the new Bond: he should be a tastefully overweight Akan-Celt philosophy professor working on formal Africana social epistemology. His enemies should be Kantians. His catch phrase is "bazinga". I realise some people (racists) wouldn't like this, but, you know, just a thought.

obviously there’s nothing wrong with being good at math, and I also don’t believe that studying the humanities is some sort of magic anti-evil antidote, but our society has become truly pathologically unbalanced with how much Good At Math is valued over everything else
terminal Math Brain truly is a cancer that is eating the world
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here
