I think among any randomly chosen group of 10 US intelligence professionals you'd get at least 9 votes to hang Pollard, and that's only accounting for someone having a deeply held belief against capital punishment in general
so a couple of notes on this. a) everybody in US intelligence I've ever talked to about this *despises* Pollard, b) although he tried to portray himself as devoted to Israel, he was casting around to sell secrets to other people, including the South Africans, for cash.

To be honest, I think recognizing this makes Southern Liberalism, when it appears, more heroic. Frank Porter Graham was a better North Carolinian for being a step out and ahead of the rest of our state. LBJ, for all his flaws, was a bold Southerner for being a Civil Rights Southerner. Etc.

We actually had a system in America where suspected criminals, especially alleged sex criminals, were extrajudicially murdered instead of being tried and sent to prison. It was called lynching and you should look it up!
