Your peers can make "bad art" by your judgment and that's fine. Maybe your art is bad by their judgment too.

But the moment you start pooping on them when they've done nothing but exist, you're the asshole. And when they find out, because they will, congrats. You've set your own bridges on fire.

The more I write historical fiction / historical romance set in what's now Central Mexico during the 1400s, the more I think about the misconceptions about the Nahuas (in the "Aztec Empire" and surrounding nations) that have been embraced by the general public.

Here are some of the biggest:

In 1693, a Manila Galleon full of goods and bound for Acapulco, wrecked on the coast of what is now Oregon, never reaching its destination. A craftsman from the Nehalem-Tillamook and Clatsop peoples made this arrowhead (in the Tillamook Pioneer Museum) out of Qing dynasty porcelain from the wreck.

FINISHED.

Artemisia Gentileschi’s Judith Slaying Holofernes, embroidered, beaded. Done.

I had not intended to make it two tone but I decided I wasn’t buying any fabric, didn’t have enough black and the red is the same type of twill.

Five crab warriors finished, as well as the Crab King and his Sorcerer (with pet eel). That's all 21 crab creatures painted - although I had to cut a couple corners to get them all done in under a week!

TIL that the New Wave band DEVO was formed in response to the Kent State shootings.

In 1970, co-founders Gerald Casale and Bob Lewis got serious about their idea of the "de-evolution" of the human race after Casale's friends Jeffrey Miller & Allison Krause were killed by OH national guards.
