My mom worked for decades at Bell Labs. They did actual work creating real things. What you are doing - stealing from actual artists and destroying the planet, raising people’s energy costs and depriving them of water - doesn’t compare to their work in any way shape or form.

And you never will, cuz you're a lazy piece of shit bitching on bluesky about artists. Hahahahahaha *points* HA

every time i see one, i can't stop myself from thinking about how ugly they are — how hostile the design is, how oversized and clumsy they look, they're, truly, one of the worst fucking car designs in history
I keep thinking that someday I will become used to the hideousness of cybertrucks and they will finally blend into the background and every time I see one I am struck anew by how awful they are

Hundreds of masked ICE agents descended on a community event in Idaho, violently arresting children and their families at gunpoint.

We're suing the Trump administration and 4 local police agencies for abusing criminal warrants to carry out unconstitutional immigration raids.
ACLU's lawsuit over ICE raid at an Idaho racetrack could be a game changer
The filing aims to hold rogue federal agents accountable by linking them to a conspiracy.

The Mellon Foundation funded my incredibly dry and historicist dissertation workshop group on the Baroque, where we read such woke writers as Leibniz
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has become the country’s preeminent funder of humanities research, Tyler Austin Harper writes. Is it saving American arts and letters—or killing them?
What Is the Mellon Foundation Doing to Higher Education?
Its role as the country’s preeminent funder of humanities research has granted the foundation—and its president—enormous influence over American arts and letters.

I hadn't heard this shit until now and finding out Platner was all in on "black people don't tip" makes way too much sense. And it's a huge red flag for anyone who works in hospitality because it's not true. Everyone who's worked behind the stick knows who undertips and it's not the black community

One thing about the Republican destruction of academia is their shallow vision of what should replace it. They don't want anything like academics, scholarship, or research to exist, they want it to be nothing more than right-wing pundits spouting off whatever lazy nonsense is needed that week.
Devastated to learn that Univ of Texas at Austin is closing the American Studies dept. The years I spent there earning my PhD were formative, making me the teacher, thinker, and writer I am today. I've passed on what I learned at UT to thousands of students over the past 20 years. Just awful.

You cannot reform this.
Burn ICE to the ground, piss on the ashes, and salt the earth.
Then build a professional agency with standards and accountability to accomplish the critical mission they were supposed to be doing.
Courts say ICE broke the law—thousands of times. The abuse continues anyway. This isn’t enforcement. It’s systemic disregard for constitutional rights, enabled and defended by the Trump regime. Republicans are treating the Constitution like toilet paper.

Between this and the story about the ice agents who ate at a Mexican restaurant and then arrested some of its workers when they were done, it's a reminder that these people reject even the most basic social agreements of hospitality and of helping others. They're sociopaths.
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

Again, this is the through line of American history, from the failure of Reconstruction to ICE killing people in cold blood on the streets of Minneapolis, with lots of ugly "City Folkz are not Real Americans and their votes don't need to be counted" stuff in between:

It really is amazing how much of political punditry, *especially* elite outfits in NYC and Washington, still embrace this bizarre idea that rural spaces represent the "Real America" while metropolitan areas, where most (presumably real) Americans actually live, should be held in contempt.
Just going to point out again that our arbitrary political rules permit Republicans to attack urban areas with impunity but strictly forbid the faintest whiff of condescension toward rural areas by Democrats

In this story, there is a lot of support for trans people that you rarely see covered in the media unless they're being attacked. Businesses and individuals all standing up and saying 'I will not be a part of this' and I think that needs to be highlighted because it can feel lonely out there.

The story of the slow, inexorable decline of Trump's support in the last thirteen months is the story of millions of Americans, one person at a time, witnessing the obscenities being perpetrated by this administration and being roused to opposition.
I am gonna go out on a limb and say that a Jersey dude so horrified that he went to his first protest and is trying not to cry on camera has a pretty good chance of staying radicalized. And that while Bluesky loves to pick apart things like this, this kinda video moves the needle for OTHER dudes.
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social
