ICE wants to buy data from online ads to spy on people.

They say they don’t need a warrant. Congress could say they do. Time to pass the Fourth Amendment is Not for Sale Act.

BREAKING: @ajc.com on Tuesday evening said it will lay off approximately 50 staffers, about 15% of its headcount, as it seeks to cut costs and marshal resources to invest in its growth.

The AJC published its last print edition on 12/31. About half of those laid off will come from the newsroom.

The biggest blow to WaPo by far was Bezos’s decision to cut the editorial.

Bezos wouldn’t allow an autopsy of the deficit. Bezos gave Fred Ryan a golden parachute. Bezos installed a Rupert Murdoch lap dog. Bezos decided Opinions would go libertarian. Bezos could save it today with spare change!

When pressed, Patty Stonesifer (our interim publisher) specifically said the Biden-era drop in subscriptions didn’t account for the whole deficit (do the math, it was only a small part), but she would not say anything else about what did.

With respect, Alex wasn’t there, and this isn’t accurate.
every news organization in the country experienced a downturn during the Biden years. The Post was particularly badly situated to weather that because they had expanded so rapidly during Trump 1. There isn't a secret plot here
🚨I’ve been saying this 2+ years now: We don’t know WHY WaPo was suddenly hugely unprofitable and started this downturn in 2023, because Jeff Bezos’s friend Patty Stonesifer barred investigation.🚨

It is becoming more and more obvious this was a premeditated murder, long before he cut the editorial.

This cannot be accepted. This is a bullshit move to try and keep the status of the occupation basically unchanged but try and play it off as a compromise
With the immediate removal of 700 federal agents from Minnesota, border czar Tom Homan put the total number of agents remaining in the state at approximately 2,000.

That’s still a dramatic increase from the normal immigration and enforcement staffing in Minnesota of around 150 agents.

I'm convinced if they re-released the iPod now, it would sell like crazy.

Un-enshittified tech that just works and doesn't force feed a plethora of ads, AI slop and gimmick functions down your throat, is an untapped market.
I found my old iPod and I’ve ordered a PS Vita. It’s all part of experimenting with how I use digital technology in 2026.

On top of my update, find plenty of great reads from the past month in the January recap.
