Brownstein is a law firm that has represented clients in Denver opposed to projects that would have done positive things for street safety.

Here they are donating to our premiere street safety organization. Is this penance?

This technology already exists and is widely used. It doesn't involve 'government surveillance' and would not allow ICE or any other government agency to stop individual cars.

Just say you think thousands of kids dying every year is worth it so you can speed!

Speed Limiters Now Mandatory in All New EU Cars
Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) isn't an ironclad speeding prevention system, but could be just annoying enough to spark a backlash.

This. For the disabled they are a vital tool, and without mine, I am housebound. The inherent ableism infuriates me, especially since I am a careful rider. In every incident I have been in, and there are very few, I was the victim not the cause. Every time.

No it wouldn't lol
I feel obligated to point out that if cars worked this way, the same tech would also enable Cops/ICE/etc. to stop any car they wanted remotely, to say nothing of a potentially malicious hacker.

I get the sentiment but this is a terrible idea.
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

They are all unavailable now becuase they are all "temporary festival" parking. Which festival? Make one up.

Mayor Daley blow up an airfield over night, Chicago can figure this out.
Almost? Feels more like a Mostly...

Side note: the Denver mayor recently directed our Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency office (which had worked on things like green infrastructure, e-bike rebates, and car free streets) to focus solely on EVs.

This is climate negligence.
I'm not anti-EV. I'm anti "EVs solve all the problems caused by combustion cars so we don't need to solve the problems caused in general by cars"

Still need to remove parking, increase transit, lower speeds, create car free spaces, support active mobility.

People like to avoid that "because EVs"
Notice that most of the world has these things, and also EVs. I think it suggests the problem might not be the EVs.

Because EVs are often used as the reason to fight against good transit and mobility infrastructure. They still demand parking spaces that could be used for bike lanes, drive lanes that could be bus lanes, and do nothing to break car dependency
I'm definitely not a car guy but it does surprise meI'm definitely not a car guy but it does surprise me given the way we used to talk about climate that people are so negative about good cars that emit no CO2!

The Safety Stop rules
We Oregonians are so lucky to have stop-as-yield for bicycles at stop signs. Probably the easiest thing any state can do to make bike riding instantly easier and safer.

Thank you Sen. Floyd Prozanski, Rep. Barbara Smith Warner, and @bjornwarloe.bsky.social. Was a close vote in 2019!
Oregon passes version of "Idaho Stop" law that allows bike riders to treat stop signs as yields
16 years after it was first proposed, we finally did it.
