Age verification? My dad bought a new car and it came with a complimentary mixtape.
Age verification? My sister and I rode for twelve hours in the rear-facing back seat of a faux-wood-paneled station wagon, and there were no seat belts.
Age verification? Since before your sun burned hot in space, and before your race was born, I have awaited a question.

If you've ever wondered what it looks like when a lawyer gets in trouble with a judge and then grabs a shovel and sees just how big a hole he can dig himself into, this is the thread for you
Hey, so, I don’t do civil litigation, is it generally considered good when the judge does this?

The Muppet Show was everything I needed today.

I like them too, sadly I fear mine would not be so good.

Give it a go, it won't be so bad, you say?

But, this IS a Pagliacci joke! *weeps*
I don’t know why, but I love Pagliacci jokes. Clearly so does the rest of Bluesky.

Time for a story about my mom.
Its 1980, my mom is a girl scout leader, and she gets a call. The area scout cookie mom has an emergency and can't accept the cookie delivery or hand out cookies.
My dad would have an absolute shitfit if he came home and saw cookies everywhere.
My mom said "I'll do it"
I think @sarahjeong.bsky.social said it's because they devalue women's labor and a LOT of this Scary Logistics stuff comes from people who don't understand that basically all of the civic life they enjoy is created with the help of free labor, largely by women.
Tho I will say, in his defense, he's not the first person to be confused by how quickly the romance authors & readers can whip up finely tuned logistics out of nothing. 😂

It doesn't matter if it's 10F out, I want a little treat so the kids are getting ice cream.

It didn't occur to my wife and I to teach our kids about trans people when they were little. And yet, when they each had a close friend transition, they were supportive, and kind, and never questioned it.
All we taught them is to love their friends. They took it from there.
Transphobia is a cancer of the heart and mind.

It is a useless fear, based on ignorance and cruelty.

Trans people are not responsible for a single one of the problems we face.

Do the world a favor and grow the fuck up.

Jon's reporting from the courtroom was excellent, as always.
The evidence was a Snapchat message that was the text equivalent of saying "I hear they are offering $10k for Bovino's head" and claiming that was a murder for hire plot. No one believed that interpretation. The jury system holds.
#BREAKING: Federal jury finds Chicago man NOT GUILTY of offering $10K for the murder of U.S. Border Patrol Cmdr. Gregory Bovino.

The little snack bags of gummi bears I eat usually have 5 bears in them. Sometimes it's a sad day and there's only 4, and sometimes it's a great day and there's 6.
Today there were 7.

If you're looking for a good omen for 2026 that's probably about as strong as it gets

My wife and I went to a restaurant in the DFW area, and it was unusually crowded so we simply went to eat up at the bar. My wife noticed the whole restaurant was buzzing and asked the bartender "Who's here?"
She replied that it was Channing Tatum
We stayed at the bar area and didn't see him
Please quote this from the time you didn't interact with someone famous.

I was visiting with family in New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the same time that Mother Theresa was there visiting her Missionaries of Charity. The bishop held a Mass for her at the church where I was baptized. I didn't go.
Catching a train from Bristol Temple Meads, but they shifted the service along the platform because a scene from THE OUTLAWS was being shot where it would usually come in. The scene featured Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant, but my train came before they shot it so I didn't see either of 'em.

I leave the office for 1 week and now I've got to run around and put a stop to all the fuckery that got started while I was out.
I'm not actually in charge of any of it, it just seems a significant part of my job is reading things people propose and saying "Please don't do that"

PAX Unplugged was the last straw - my 3 game bookshelves are officially overflowing. Time to buy a couple more.

I'm in tech support. I'm pretty careful to get really specific about what I do to head off the inevitable "Oh could you help me with my printer?"
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

The other book I read while flying last weekend - @tkingfisher.com 's Snake-Eater. This is in the amazon prime First Reads program this month.
I'm a big fan of her fantasy horror books in general and this is no exception. This one hit a little differently to me, but I really, really like this book.

Did some flying recently - which meant time for reading!
Read @kbspangler.com 's Digital Divide (thanks to @kithrup.bsky.social), the first book in the Rachel Peng series.
I'm hooked. The whole premise is fascinating to me, the characters, especially Peng, are intriguing, the action kept moving.

Another visit to #PaxU in the books, 10 new board games for the game shelves and just in time for the holidays.
And now, brunch.

Officially on vacation. Next stop - PAX Unplugged!

I'm currently in the "Pack all the things so I don't forget the things" stage. Later in the trip will be "I forgot the things" anyway.

This was one of the items I was wondering about as it didn't make sense - the two competing indictments. My guess apparently was what happened - she got the returned indictment with 1 charge rejected and 2 accepted, and edited it to only have the 2 charges.

That turned incredibly fast.

PAX Unplugged badges have arrived!
While I miss living within driving distance of a PAX event, it makes it easier to justify going to Unplugged each year.
