Having only ever seen clips before, so lovely to watch the whole thing last night - thanks Chris! Can't help but think if they had made it now, Ricky Jay would be all CGI. I miss practical effects.
Good news: If you would like to watch Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants on YouTube I have done a painstaking 4k upscale of this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0gW...

My biggest fear when visiting a foreign country is that after a day of wandering I'll happen upon a little museum of me. Shuffling along with other tourists through rooms of my discarded effects and lost memories, unable to translate the labels. Learning nothing about myself.

Really neat that two of the best supporting performances this year are in the same film (One Battle) and are complete opposites – the world's most intense, off-putting, racist psychopath, versus the chillest, calmest, kindest community leader.

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:

tetsuya mizuguchi truly, earnestly believes, with his whole heart and whole mind, that generic vocal trance from 2003 has the power to awaken humanity's shared consciousness and guide us to universal peace. The strength of his conviction is so powerful that it might actually cause this to be true

I am absolutely watching Last Samurai Standing. Try as I might to become a more cultured and well rounded individual, I saw the Mortal Kombat movie when I was 8 and some idiot part of me still believes "deadly martial arts tournament" is an essential type of narrative, like Greek tragedy and shit.

So relieved Mamdani is a couple of months older than me. He's a full grown 34! I'm only 33 and 11 months! You can't expect much from someone 33 and 11 months old! I'm basically a baby.

I did an escape room in 2022/2023 that used a Kinect! I may be misremembering, but you had to do some specific poses in front of it to open a draw or something, as if being a nerd that enjoys escape rooms wasn't humiliating enough to begin with.
