Stephen Jay Gould’s Wonderful Life.
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

Cities are Real America.
“Can’t believe NYC elected a Muslim as mayor.”

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

Huh, I thought they did this like 30 years ago. I haven’t seen an MTV channel on cable in decades, but maybe it’s been on those super-high numbers that I never go to?
MTV is officially ending all of its music channels.

In honor of that, what's your favorite music video?

I ate at a small restaurant where Mike Rutherford was also eating, prior to Genesis playing a concert in town.
Please quote this from the time you didn't interact with someone famous.

I was visiting with family in New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the same time that Mother Theresa was there visiting her Missionaries of Charity. The bishop held a Mass for her at the church where I was baptized. I didn't go.
Catching a train from Bristol Temple Meads, but they shifted the service along the platform because a scene from THE OUTLAWS was being shot where it would usually come in. The scene featured Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant, but my train came before they shot it so I didn't see either of 'em.

I say this in no way to detract from the novel, which I’m sure I will preorder at the first opportunity:

How great would it be if this had illustrations by Stewart Cowley?

New book on its way! For the last few years I’ve been working on ‘The First Hundred Hours, a story of Alien Invasion.’ Updates coming soon!

Merry Christmas! Please enjoy the opening to this Japanese Christmas concert special that I watch every year.

As far as I can tell, this has otherwise been scrubbed from the internet

I showed these to my husband last night and he made me laugh with this one: "He looks like he's in a lover's spat with the lamp and the lamp is winning."

I feel like the original 1982 Conan should have spawned a trend where every action hero has to explain what they think is best in life.

I want Batman, James Bond, Spider-Man, Blade, Jason Bourne and Lara Croft to be asked to expound their theory of human happiness.

Pro-AI-slop people saying we won’t be able to avoid it because it will be everywhere forget that shitty content has *always* been everywhere. We’re *already* practiced at avoiding it.

Sturgeon’s Revelation is more relevant than ever.
I'm so tired of GenAi not only keeping me from enjoying new things but ruining things I once loved.

"Get used to it, its going to be everywhere"

Fuck you and the weird Ai horse you rode in on. I'm perfectly capable of not watching/reading/playing slop, just watch me.

No one bores like Gaston
Makes us snore like Gaston
No one has ted-i-ous back-stor-ies like Gaston

(sorry)
While I don't agree with it necessarily, I do understand the appeal of villainous backstories. But can someone explain to me why Disney keeps choosing the most boring villains to do this for? Maleficent was fine. Who doesn't like dark fairies and Angelina Jolie's cheekbones? But Cruella? Gaston?

Also, the article is titled “The Lost Generation”, implying that people who aren’t white men are not part of the generation. As if women and minorities don’t also have aspirations, not to mention bills to pay.
One of the things that always strikes me about reading these right-wing diatribes against diverse hiring in media is it's always just a given in them now that white women were also wrongly (in their eyes) given too many opportunities. www.compactmag.com/article/the-...
The Lost Generation
For fifteen years I’ve scalped tickets to pay the bills. But in January 2016 I almost managed a real career.

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION OUR VICTORY UNITS

(Also I don't know how to break it to you but most actual scientists here in the US *also* use Victory Units in their daily lives and use the Socialist Units for professional work)

ALL HAIL THE VICTORY UNITS
As a *science* fiction writer (amonst many talents 😀) why, oh why, do you present the weather forecast in Fahrenheit?!? Let's get real and stick to SI units .... Centigrade rules! (everywhere but USA)

The #Raiders added Pete Carroll as their coach this year, and I am delighted that this detestable #NFL team (which has been fucking over cities for decades) with the coach I hate is 2-11 and is currently getting stomped by the #Eagles.

I’m getting a trickle of follows from people who seem to be exclusively reposting things, usually liberal political things. Probably bots I should block?

Might be a good idea in this age to assume if they’re not posting their own original content then they’re not real people?
