OH I've heard people say that I'm not really "provocative" or "iconoclastic", because I was "born into money", and "played a lead in the early seasons of Call the Midwife", and "wrote the book of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical", and...

US has a eugenics problem; focusing on personal health bc they fear disability bc of discrimination/infantilization, they lack community to help, they can't afford the healthcare/low wages/less rights & autonomy
Then they mock disabilities (physical attributes, brain injury, speech, wheelchair jokes)

I was there last night. This film has other titles like “Judgement” but Hitz is most appropriate because it seems like it suffered a concussion and is just blathering. Hey-yo!
Thanks to all who stopped by last night! Here is the cover art to HITZ, which suggests that Cuba Gooding Jr has more than two sentences of dialogue, and is a real movie with a coherent tone

All those companies spending dosh on de-aging tech to evoke '90s nostalgia when they could have just done this!

Not actively watching but between the goofy Mandalorian and Grogu promo and the Hoppers ad that dropped, I'm beginning to wonder if Disney was a mistake.

Is it bad when the only people who can afford Super Bowl ads are the aliens from They Live and the guys making Skynet

I doubt this has happened before: 11 of this weekend's top 15 movies were made independently, inc. 4 of the top 5. There is nothing holding down overall grosses and attendance more than the fact that studios have forgotten how to do what they used to do, which is to fill the pipeline with movies.

Disney was willing to spend $10 million on a Super Bowl spot for Hoppers but not the next two MCU movies? 🧐
Apparently Mario, Mando, Toy Story, Hoppers and that’s about it. Costs like 10 mil this year

Have to say, the subsequent twenty-two ads for Hoppers haven’t shown me anything more about the movie than the first

I’ve seen so much writing and consternation about genAI being used from the perspective of the creator, especially those seeking to profit off it, but I haven’t seen ANYTHING about who the mythical audience for this slop supposedly is or why they want to spend their money on it.

Does anyone else feel that in recent decades movies rarely depict average working people? In the 70s and 80s we had movies about struggling families, stories about people most of us could understand. Not necessarily about the struggle, but where it was an obvious factor.

I Can Only Imagine 2 (dir. Erwin and McCorkle, 2026)
Somewhere, the All-American Halftime Show begins to set up, and Glip Norbeck, Boof Brakon, and Lee Scorsbey know they're going out there nobodies and coming back stars.

One of the reasons that Disney's centennial film Wish doesn't work is that it is so busy working in Easter eggs and references to other movies starting from the weird premise of "How did the wishing star that appeared in a few previous Disney animations come to exist?"
One of the things I find interesting about a lot of franchise entertainment is how when fans hype it up, they frequently do so by talking about all the callbacks and easter eggs and references to earlier entries. I don't see much praise for what is new about the film/show/what-have-you.

Like even the individual character posters for Hoppers (there's at least 27!) don't go with the main character as a human just as her robot beaver avatar. Even Princess and the Frog and Soul at least showed us what the character actually is and not what they're turned into for the bulk of the movie.
There are a lot of posters for this and this is the only American one I've found that even hints at the main character's actual appearance (in the background) so I double-checked and OH she's Korean-American, and Disney/Pixar know better than to center a human character of color in ads these days.
New Dolby poster for Pixar’s #Hoppers. Only in theaters March 6.

Also let’s be honest: MAGA World are going to hatewatch the Bad Bunny halftime show instead of the low rent counterprogramming - asking racist grandparents to change the channel or leave the living room to see it on a computer is asking far too much
