Liberals and conservatives alike refuse to understand that democratic socialism won’t eliminate rich people (lots of millionaires in Canada) but it would limit billionaires. No need for any one person to have THAT much money, come on now. But of course their masters scream and the Post prints it 🫤

This is so true, I’m tired of calling dem leadership feckless, it’s really dawning on me that they’re actually complicit.
When the GOP was in the minority they still managed to make us all feel like they were the ones actually in charge.
The "oh they are a minority, they can't do anything" excuse is completely absurd when applies to the United States of America.

Our Senate is one of the most singularly, and infamously, powerful counter-majoritarian bodies on the planet. A single senator can halt all business and force debate!

This f’ing guy, I liked him on the campaign trail. Goes to show, you just never know.
"I'm gonna give Homan the benefit of the doubt"

"They should coordinate with local law enforcement, pick these people up in the middle of the night when they're not suspecting it"

Walz is capitulating to fascists and encouraging night raids. Genuinely disgusting. Why would anyone settle for this?

TOM HOMAN: “We’re going to create a database where those people that are arrested for interference, impeding and assault, we’re going to make them famous. We’re going to put their face on TV. We’re going to let their employers, in their neighborhoods, in their schools, know who these people are.”

Democratic leadership and the corporate Dems are so feckless and unready for this moment it drives me crazy. Now is the time! Take a stand.
Majority of the country now wants to abolish and/or dismantle ICE and yet Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. told the caucus the message had to be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Once again it looks like Schumer is about to choke after getting a massive opportunity.

So pathetic and weak.
Senate Democrats plot strategy as DHS standoff deepens heading into shutdown week
Two sources who were on a Democratic caucus strategy call Sunday said Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told the group the message must be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

My husband didn't know, so I'll repeat it here: Border Czar isn't a real job. Tom Homan has a fake job with a fake title. It also means that he wasn't confirmed by anyone in Congress. (Trump tried to confirm Homan in 1.0 but he failed bc Homan was too corrupt even pre-cava bag.)

Ten years ago, some people dismissed libraries as "yesterday's" institutions.

They are *the* institutions of the moment. And tomorrow.

Deb Fallows has ongoing chronicle of them, at Our Towns site. www.ourtownsfoundation.org New dispatch coming soon.
Went to my local library this morning to do a bit of research for my current book project and my goodness such a life-affirming space! There was an adult being taught to read on the next table, children enjoying story time, countless people taking out books. So grateful for our libraries ❤️

This is 100% true, we’re always so quick to give up rights temporarily in a crisis. They’re never given back.
The Patriot Act (2001) and Homeland Security Act (2002) were rushed through following 9/11 by authoritarians who whipped up fear to consolidate power and erode rights.

The are Acts of Cowardice. It’s time to revoke them both.

Abolish ICE. Destroy DHS.

DHS was created under Bush W, it was very controversial and hinted to be a stop gap that would expire with the Patriot Act.
Once taken, rights are almost never returned.
Abolishing ICE is the bare minimum.

We need to dismantle DHS. We need restitution. And we need trials.

I’ve been saying this for awhile now, it’s absolutely a sickness.
If you make a billion dollars — or $500 million or even $100 million dollars — and you keep trying to make more, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's a mental illness akin to hoarding or drug addiction.
