Working in infosec, but trying not to be insufferable about it.
This is such an unsurprisingly depressing story to read. The story moves on from it quickly, but the theological system that hands huge unaccountable power to preachers so long as they can produce "signs" from the Holy Spirit is how you get a church where this type of assault is commonplace.
Last year we got a tip about a children's pastor who'd managed to stay in ministry for decades even as allegations of sex abuse trailed him across four states.

I kept pulling thread and found something far bigger: a 50-year pattern of abuse and cover-up in the largest Pentecostal denomination 🧵 1/

The @nytimes.com is institutionally incapable of admitting a mistake, so twenty years from now they're still going to have an institutional grudge against the Indian-African diaspora and nobody is going to remember why they keep taking potshots at them.

Yep! The time to do overtly political purges of state law enforcement agencies was six months ago.

Instead, it seems likely that California will go down like the 1932 coup in Prussia.
A lot of blue mayors and governors know the "don't give an order you don't expect to be obeyed" leadership maxim but interpret it as "I guess I can't order the cops to do anything" rather than as a crisis of insubordination.
One thing I have not seen much grappling with: the Trump Administration has acted illegally with respect to the National Guard & Marines in LA plus the whole parade nonsense is a federal show of power, but cops ostensibly controlled by local governments in blue cities attacked protestors yesterday.

This is an insane itinerary.
Look at how many places this person with measles, an incredibly infectious disease with an R0 of 12-18, has visited over a 4-day span, including SeaTac. And we have an anti-vax crackpot who falsely claims the vaccine is untested and contains fetal tissue running our public health agencies.

I still can’t get over the fact the Athletics fought for the right to struggle to fill a 15k minor league stadium for the next three years.

it’s pretty funny how the list of opposition to SB79 (an amazing bill to legalize dense housing near transit) is half groups like “united communists for community justice” and the other half is “suburban millionaires’ homeowner association”

I don’t know why Seattle suffers from such a scourge of politicians who run for city council only to delegate all meaningful authority to a different council of degrowther Malthusians.
I do not, repeat do not, want neighborhood community councils made up overwhelmingly of house owners to decide where renters will be allowed to live. Why do we even have a city council, mayor, or planning department if the policy is to let homeowner councils make final decisions?

this is true, and obviously raises the question "where did Christianity come from". the answer is that it was revealed by direct divine intervention during the Council of Nicaea.

transferring their chambers to the US guano islands, cutting their staff, banning them from getting air conditioning and giving them exclusively jurisdiction over maritime norovirus cases would be a good idea
Mandating IRS audits for SCOTUS judges once every three years would do wonders.

1 more point on literacy: it's a disaster that the inner workings of the US government are incredibly complicated and illogical (filibuster, reconciliation, Electoral College, etc). parliaments work better bc dipshits can pick a party that sounds good and see that legibly translated into outcomes
