The government’s plan to restrict social media use for under 16s has been criticised by the Children’s Rights Alliance.

Restricting social media “punishes children for the fixable faults created by the tech giants" who run the platforms, the group said.

It wasn't controversial it was straight up fraudalant disinfo. I will never forget the amount of abuse I got online as disabled person by ppl openly identifying as fine gael members during this period, scum leach lazy not really disabled. The demonisation was the point and fine gael revelled in it.
The 'welfare cheats’ government campaign temporarily weakened belief in Ireland that social benefits help prevent poverty, according to the State’s think tank.

The left tried for decades to pass green energy subsidies, passed them, the subsidies worked, and now literally the entire planet's electricity grid is going to convert to solar+battery. It just doesn't feel like "tech" because it mostly produces kinda boring blue collar jobs instead of billionaires

Hey so this is important. Amazon is removing ALL erotica and new queer books from its Amazon associates program, which seems to be a first step towards delisting these books a la itchio.

This includes my book, your books, and the books you like to buy.

This is bad news, and we can expect worse

It's almost time for Ramadan, as Muslims tonight peered to the crescent moon to see if the month of Ramadan starts tonight or the day after. As with every year, I'm starting this thread so that people can ask questions, and learn about Ramadan from one person's perspective of it.

Always look at the words they use. It's always a narrative about being left behind, never a value proposition. That's because there isn't one. LLMs are Clippy crossed with predictive text: two things you traditionally switch off if you want to get any actual work done.
Sorry to get radical but I don’t think it’s my job or yours to embrace, accept, understand - and certainly not to use - the thing being sold to us as AI. I don’t like any part of it, so I won’t. I’m missing out? Good, that’s what I want. You’re worried about me missing out? That’s fuckin weird, man.

Your food supply chain? Also screwed.

I used to work in IT for a big frozen food supplier. Computer electronics are tied into just about everything that makes a processing plant go.
People talk about this stuff in terms of how much it'll suck for gaming and I hate to inform you how many MRI machines, X-Rays, all sorts of other vital machinery are just a Windows IoT Edition PC in a beige plastic box with a big magnet/accelerator/whatever attached.

Ginger hasn't been back after his approx 12 hour stay with us, I'm wondering if he's been grounded for his indiscretions 😅
Some cat drama this evening! Ginger (regular visitor) doesn't seem to want to go home tonight. Another (wayyy bigger) cat showed up earlier trying to get into the house and Ginger has a wound on one of his front legs now. BUT I don't know if thats from the other cat or if he got injured else ways

These tech oligarchs are all Incredibly Afraid of death—to a level that's frankly unnatural—and they assume we all feel the same as them.

Memento mori, Zuckerberg.
Meta has patented AI that can run a dead person's account, continuing to post and chat on their behalf

It can message and video call by replicating a user's online behavior using their past data
