The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

Been trying to limit socials to get more work done, but had to pop on to enjoy all the joy around the inauguration of our new Uachtarán :) What a great speech! and loved seeing her say it in front of all the gov parties lol! We did good, we picked the right person for the job! #spéirghorm

Radicalised people burned out an IPAS centre last night. We don't even have the comfort of pretending the rhetoric that radicalised them came exclusively from powerless far-right trolls. It has been echoed by our Taoiseach, our Tánaiste, and our Minister for Justice. #spéirgorm

I saw english people online defending basically antisocial or upsetting behaviours as part of THEIR halloween TRADITIONS and Im pretty sure my brain has overloaded with trying to process the multiple levels of postcolonial fucked-upness going on there.

Not a hope. The haves have all the power.

What irks me so much is that homeless figures exclude everyone over 18 living with their parents.

These are people lucky enough to have another option, but they can't afford to rent or buy.

It's emergency accommodation by another name.

I dont think ff/fg are simply looking for racist votes, I think the gov parties want to us talking about immigration because divisive far right talking points suits them rather then housing etc and they can pull the more out of touch/careerist sf tds right which undermines left unity. #spéirghorm

In my lifetime of 54 years, I have never, ever had an Irish government that represents my views. Not once.
Less than a quarter of the electorate voted for the parties of our Taoiseach/Tánaiste combi, but I haven't seen endless attempts to analyze the deepest desires of the other 75% of the electorate and how the system could be improved to better represent them.

Spent this morning tallying, this afternoon running around with the siblings getting stuff for dads birthday, only sitting down now with a cuppa to process what was clear from the first box we tallied, that Catherine Connolly is going to be our next Uachtarán na hÉireann!! 💚 #spéirghorm

Catherine's victory shows how we might finally defeat the FFG stranglehold. When a broad left unite for a common purpose the majority of the voting public will support them.
I'd love to see this Left Coalition continuing beyond this Presidential election.

V. clear that many Connolly voters are not just sending a message to the government on what sort of values they want to see in politics but also signalling an expectation they want to see the opposition form a strong functioning left coalition.
