Italy’s biggest pasta exporters say import and antidumping duties totaling 107% on their pasta brands will make doing business in the U.S. too costly.
Italian Pasta Is Poised to Disappear From American Grocery Shelves
The Trump administration is set to impose duties of 107% on Italian pasta imports, among most punitive of the tariffs it has levied.

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Called my Senators again to ask if they still support the failed leadership of Schumer and Durbin after last night's all-timer screwup of a vote. Had to leave voicemail for Hickenlooper. Bennett's office says—paraphrasing—"hmm idk good question." I think more people ought to ask it. (202) 224-3121!

Yall it hasn't even been a week since Tuesday! You didn't even ride it for a week! I never want to hear a democratic consultant or anyone talk to me about public opinion polls, or votes because apparently none of that mattered tonight.
Actually none of it mattered!

'please take this briefcase full of unmarked bills, and hey, if you're so inclined, go on and shoot the hostage too'
i don’t play pundit and try to guess how stuff will play to voters whose politics generally make no sense to me, but if ending the shutdown was about the important business of getting SNAP benefits and air travel back online, it also rewards hostage taking in a way that seems pretty ominous to me

It is really hard to describe what is happening without sounding slightly crazy. It just doesnt make any sense
How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)
They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

If their goal is to pin the blame on a handful of senators who aren't up for reelection until 2030 then you should primary every Democrat regardless.

Carefully choreographed votes and angry press releases are all cute, but the indication of whether anyone in the caucus really cares is whether there’s any push for leadership changes or punitive action against the cavers.
There won’t be, but that would be the theoretical sign this is different

The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

From over 7 years ago, the night of Kavanaugh's nomination. I still have the sign, and every single day it becomes only more relevant—to the extent that one can still believe that what's happening is Democratic cowardice and not Democratic complicity

Not to mention, open enrollment has ALREADY STARTED. The subsidies expiring has ALREADY done damage to the marketplace that will be difficult to reverse. Even if they got a YES in December, the ACA would be screwed just from WAITING THAT LONG
Senate Democrats asked for a year of ACA subsidies and were told to fuck off.
So they came back and asked for a pinky promise to hold a vote on ACA subsidies that they will assuredly lose?
Seriously?
