the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style
MY KIDS: so why are there muppets in the AUDIENCE

ME: THE CONCEIT!! IS THAT THEY'RE PUTTING ON A VARIETY SHOW!!! IN A WORLD WHERE MUPPET AND HUMAN COEXIST!!! YOU ARE WATCHING A DOCUMENTARY!! FILMED!! IN REAL TIME!!!

Sometimes you have to say it out loud to appreciate how dire t all is:

The president just openly declared his plans to steal the midterm elections — in an interview with the former number two person at the FBI.
Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"

Impeachment is the only Constitutional check Congress has against a lawless president and talking about it would be a good start to reasserting Congressional power in the future. Assuming of course Congress wants to do that
Speaking out like this is all they can do now. Impeachment is a total and complete joke, and threatening to use it is akin to threatening to hit someone with a wet noodle. Impeachment is no longer a viable tool to use against Republican politicians.

It has been two weeks since the unexpected death of Peer Bork, and all of us in his research group are deeply missing him. His scientific vision brought us together as a team, and we are immensely grateful for the time we spent together. 🧵
EMBL is deeply saddened by the passing of our Interim Director General Peer Bork, a pioneering scientist who left an indelible imprint on life science research in Europe and beyond.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

To summarize:

Most important

Max Perutz was NOT an example of someone with a great idea who went against the establishment wisdom to solve an important problem that he had uniquely identified.

He was part of an organized team working on this problem. He got lots of help.

Any other famous pedophiles going to be there? Looking forward to doing a bunch of pedophile stuff btw.
OK, so Musk was planning to go to Epstein's island, but it's not like he went there with the intent to go to a wild party or something, it was probably just some business. Excuse me, an email just came in.

I'm at the Willard Hotel where I've been denied entry and kicked out of the Reclaiming Science event with NIH director Bhattacharya & other top agency leaders.

@jocelynkaiser.bsky.social and I registered for the event months ago yet were told capacity was full, even as they let in dozens of others.

I used to have these knee-jerk reactions to people who were trying to get the Democrats to be better, but right now we are in primary season.

I will absolutely be voting for a Democrat in the midterms. But I am not quite sure which one I'll be voting for yet.
You're arguing with a strawman.

I just want them to say it was a mistake to create these agencies. I want them to show me they understand what has gone wrong and why.

my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.
Ps: a common refrain that you'll hear is that "you're saying the Dems can't be at fault, it's the voters, as if the voters owe something to politicians and not the other way around!"

Yes, actually, that's how the social contract of democracy works. Voters yet the government they work for. Or don't.
