Attorney, Views are my own and not intended as legal advice 😁
What a complete crock of shit
Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

OMFG

Do not spoil me with a good time
I dont think the dems would even know what to do with a 2/3rds majority in the house and senate. It would be a dog who caught the car scenario because they could just pass constitutional amendment resolutions at will.

People, I'm BEGGING you:

If you are going to share that leaked 60 minutes segment, INCLUDE SOME COMMENTARY in your post that makes it necessary for readers to have access to the full video to understand the commentary. CBS has a deep black eye over this and the odds that they'll look to punish ppl

OMFG
‘It’s not a part time job.’

Oof.

Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi absolutely leveled Bari Weiss at an emergency 60 Minutes staff meeting today.

Not weird. Just hacks
Weird how The Free Press was able to publish all of these without comment from the Washigton University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

OH SHIT...GO BOASBERG!!!
BREAKING: Judge James Boasberg rules for those deported under the Alien Enemies Act on March 15 — certifying a class, finding the U.S. maintained constructive custody over them at CECOT, finding they were not given due process, and ordering return or that such process be given by Jan. 5, 2026.

Also the last bullet on the legal rational and court arguments is just pure BS and not reflective of actual reality.
The full Weiss memo is dogshit
-who cares if administration figures “regret” sending people to CECOT
-who cares about the criminal histories of the people we sent to CECOT, we sent them to a torture prison
—who cares about the “debate” over the legality of sending people to a torture prison

Jesus christ
ICE agents illegally break into a woman's bathroom in a NY nutrition bar manufacturing plant. "Pull up your pants," says a male agent. The agents only had a warrant to review employer documents. They didn't have a warrant to search for, detain, or arrest anyone there.

”it is imperative that we put a bunch of people who have demonstrably lied over and over again on camera so that we can both-sides this, rather than focus on conveying what is true”
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

So I think in general this is right and expands beyond SCOTUS. We need to reform and build good institutions that work. I will say though that on SCOTUS if it comes down to it cabining or eliminating their power significantly is preferable to them upending all the other reform projects we will need.
"Pulling the Supreme Court back from the cliff is something progressives should view as far preferable to the alternative—where it may not just be the Court that gets pushed over the edge and into oblivion, but our entire constitutional (and democratic) order."

Me in today's issue of "One First":
198. Progressive Judicial Institutionalism
There's important daylight between those who are critical of the present degree of judicial power in the United States in general and those who are critical of the current Supreme Court, specifically.

really cannot be emphasized enough that bari weiss has literally never done journalism. i don’t mean that in the pejorative sense. i mean that in the “has never performed the job she was hired to do” sense
One explanation for Bari killing the story is that she did so as a public act of fealty to the administration. But another is that, as an inexperienced journalist, she doesn’t understand that a refusal to go on the record is a kind of comment in and of itself

What an absolute hack
On a call just now, Bari Weiss tells staff she held the CECOT story because it wasn’t ready & to advance a months-old story, they need "the principals" on record.

Yesterday, CBS reporter Sharyn Alfonsi warned if they can only do stories when government responds, it “gains control” over 60 Minutes.

I’d love to know what “context” or “critical voices” Weiss means to add about the facially unlawful (and, in some cases, contrary to court order) summary removal of persons to a torture site.
The New York Times updated their story with a statement from Bari Weiss:

“Weiss-washing” will be compared to redacting text in a way that perfectly conforms to the text such that you’re merely creating a bolder, easier-to-read font.
