My PhD is in disability studies, and I’m disabled. I know the risks of AI having my medical info, and still I just agree when the doctor asks mid-appointment if they can use it. The power differential matters.

I can imagine many patients just worrying that they will piss off the doctor in the moment and say yes.

Like yes, my baseline is absolutely no AI, but it's shocking to me how little ethical considerations are taken for people who just don't want it used or used on them.

Hot take: The doctor shouldn't be the one asking if it's ok if she uses AI to take patient notes. The power differential + patient anxiety + short appointment times means the patient feels pressure to say yes. It should be a question asked during check-in. (I wish it wasn't used at all, but...)

"The recent FBI raid on a Fulton County elections office functions as a test case for baseless claims about fraud as a pretext to seize ballots."

This @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social piece gets the balance right between remaining vigilant without self-crippling fear, with a roadmap of what to expect:
Trump can't steal the midterms.

I say that not as a call for complacency, but to right-size worries. Authoritarianism partially exists in our heads. Excessive fear plays into their hands.

Be vigilant but don't panic. Don't grant the regime more power than it actually has.

I think it’s time for Democratic leaders to start saying “if you’re a pilot or ground crew involved in a deportation that was stayed by a judge, you’ll be held criminally liable for human trafficking.” Everyone involved in these flights should have that fear in the back of their minds.
Overnight, this probable ICE flight landed in Benin and is now returning to Senegal, likely for a crew layover.

Every time someone brings up the environmental and ethical concerns with AI in the comments he replies that this article isn’t about that and…yeah that’s…that’s why they’re bringing it up. Because it’s actually a very important issue with AI and one of the main reasons “the left” isn’t into it
I think this is directionally correct and honestly I'm less concerned about what it means for the left's take on AI than I am for the left's ability to metabolize new information and changing circumstances generally www.transformernews.ai/p/the-left-i...
