This seems to be USDA howling into the void after its terrible communications led many states to think that they were free to do what USDA should have told them to do all along. I sometimes feel like howling into the void myself, but I cannot imagine doing so in the cause of keeping millions of people hungry. My guess is that the main point of this memo is to intimidate states that are considering issuing full November benefits. It also may think that some states have performed some of the steps needed to issue November benefits but not completed those tasks. But for states that have already issued benefits, USDA's regulation only allows pulling them back in the case of erroneous issuance or systems error, none of which this is. This is not like the situation where a flawed automated system adds an extra "0” to everyone's benefits. I do not see how USDA can do anything to the states. It was its own memo that said it was working toward full November issuance; its memo did not tell states not to do the same or say it would change its position if it got a stay. And it left that guidance in place for a full day after it received the stay. USDA has nobody to blame but itself.

N 1985, PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN appointed me as a federal judge. I was 38 years old. At the time, I looked forward to serving for the rest of my life. However, I resigned Friday, relinquishing that lifetime appointment and giving up the opportunity for public service that I have loved. My reason is simple: I no longer can bear to be restrained by what judges can say publicly or do outside the courtroom. President Donald Trump is using the law for partisan purposes, targeting his adversaries while sparing his friends and donors from investigation, prosecution, and possible punishment. This is contrary to everything that I have stood for in my more than 50 years in the Department of Justice and on the bench. The White House's assault on the rule of law is so deeply disturbing to me that I feel compelled to speak out. Silence, for me, is now intolerable.

However, for some individuals, adopting such a diet may represent a significant shift, particularly at the initial stages, as it often involves avoiding culturally embedded food choices. In this context, ultra-processed plant-based foods, such as plant-based milks, plant-based analogs, and margarine, may serve as transitional tools, offering more favorable health and environmental profiles than their unprocessed animal-based counterparts. The widespread perception that "natural" or unprocessed foods are inherently healthier can lead to the rejection of plant-based alternatives in favor of animal products such as red meat or dairy. This is concerning, as current evidence suggests that many of these animal foods are more strongly associated with adverse cardiometabolic outcomes and higher chronic disease risk and mortality. Public health messaging should therefore aim to clarify these nuances and encourage dietary transitions that are both health-promoting and realistic.

Because the recent attacks on Venezuelan vessels and their crews were unauthorized by U.S. law and in violation of binding international law, they were illegal summary executions - murders. It is imperative that Congress act promptly, as pending legislation proposes, to make clear to the President and the nation that the President's threat of similar attacks on Venezuelan vessels (and on Venezuela itself) are unlawful and must not be repeated. Only by doing so can Congress bring our nation into compliance with the Constitution and international law, reduce the risk of hostilities with neighboring countries and assure that similar abuses of Presidential power do not expand to American shores.

I deleted the paper and my account and messaged my co-authors (on another platform of course) to tell them what I did and why. So unbelievably gross.

As a columnist, I can’t live with that level of restraint. I also was troubled by significant inconsistencies in the implementation of the policy. During this period, The Post allowed stronger, opinionated language by other staffers, including the words "viciousness," "cruelty" and "meanness" to describe Trump's actions. I'm gone from The Post, but only as a journalist. Many people understandably have canceled subscriptions to protest Bezos's actions that have damaged the news organization's integrity. I still subscribe, and read and support the enduring fine work of Post journalists in the newspaper and (image cuts off)

Afghanistan will be included in the recommended list of countries for a complete travel ban, said the three sources and one other who also asked not to be identified. Democrats now hold just two of seven seats, and they’re in danger of slipping further in November since the only seat on the ballot is that of Democratic Justice Allison Riggs. A former civil rights attorney appointed last year by governor Ray Cooper, Riggs faces Republican Jefferson Griffin, a lower-court judge. Democrats need to defend Riggs’ seat to have a realistic chance of flipping the court back later this decade.

Nothing about that changed during her interview with Ms. Ruhle before her audience on MSNBC, the liberal cable channel whose viewers overwhelmingly favor Democratic candidates. It's not quite clear what Ms. Harris gained, aside from giving her campaign aides the ability to say she held a one-on-one cable television interview. For the vice president, speaking with Ms. Ruhle was roughly in the same ballpark as Mr. Trump having one of his regular chats with Sean Hannity of Fox News. Last week, Ms. Ruhle openly showed her preference for Ms. Harris over Mr. Trump during an appearance on Bill Maher's Hво program. And when she interviewed Mr. Biden in May 2023, Ms. Ruhle did not press… …him after his stumbling answers and praised him throughout the 14-minute discussion.
