I think a lot of Americans are unprepared for how insanely bad things will get if Trump actually goes for this, but conversely a lot of people on here are underrating how fast things will get memory holed and smoothed over if there’s a climb down

I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

Trump is weak at home, and he can be stopped – so long as the domestic political logic of foreign intervention is recognized and turned against him. This act of war is about regime change in the United States. It only succeeds if Americans allow it to do so.

I wish I could find a link. There's a scene in 1984 where the alliance changes in the middle of a Party rally. The speaker changes his rhetoric mid-sentence, and everyone rips down the pro-Eastasia banners which had obviously been placed there by evil forces.
